**** The Official Samsung Galaxy S9/S9 Plus Thread ****

Girlfriend just got the S9 33/pm with 30 GB data unltd text and mins. Also bt sports and Apple music. Bargain imo. Discount code was used to remove the £80 upfront cost.

so, there was a discount code and ended up with S9 Duos for 395 GBP.
Can't see this being much of an upgrade from S8, but looking forward to it anyway.
S8 served rather well, I was planning to use till maybe end of year, but hey...

anyone knows when Android P is due? based on past experience with Samsung, I guess not anytime soon.

I bought the S9+ last week just to see what it was like next t my S8+. I bought from Samsung direct as I really like their super simple returns policy.

To be honest everything felt exactly the same with the only exception being the camera and camera UI.The autofocus on the S9 is insanely quick in the darkest of conditions. It wiped the floor with the S8+ with the exact same mode and settings applied. 4K 60fps is also sublime.

But I couldn't see where else the extra £ was going, so ended up returning it. I had to see what it was like though, and I also got through over 25% battery in one evening whereas the S8's initial setup in the same timespan lost far less battery.

What will you do now for a handset? Hold out with a temp one and wait for the Pixel 3?

I ask because I am strongly leaning on doing the same thing as you with my S8+. Coming from a 6P the camera image quality, whilst very good is not as good as what I got on the 6P. I keep staring at S9+ offers.

You could see if there are any good deals on the S8+ if you can't wait, else the Pixel 3XL is not far away. IMO the S10 is the next proper upgrade for anyone on an S8 series right now if rumours are true about the S10.

All the other flagships coming out now just don't compare to the overall package of the S9+ or S8+ if you have either currently. That is of course my opinion!

I'm sticking with the S8+ until Pixel 3 and seeing what that offers. If it doesn't live up to expectations, then S10 come February.

The S8 camera is still excellentl as is performance. Had mine since launch and it hasn't slowed down or anything like that which previous Samsungs were well known to do.

I completely agree regarding the S10 and your latter statement. I was tempted by the Pixel XL2 but the S8+ is a better package overall and what remains is the S9+. My camera seems to exhibit that typical samsung over processing when zoomed in slightly, whereas my 6P looks a lot better. This is on Auto mode btw with HDR on. Guess I'm spoilt by the 6P.

Think I'll wait for the PX3 too...and it's price.

Will be advertising a brand new sealed/unlocked s9 for sale later today on MM. What would you say is a fair price to ask for it?

Edit: Just realised you can now ask this in the price check section which I have done. If for whatever reason price checks are not allowed here can a mod pls del.

Ignore the above, its going back.

Managed to get an s9+ for the missus instead. EE with 30gb data, unlimited calls and texts for £33.60 a month, and £50 for the handset.

The contract was actually £48 a month but we managed to get 30% friends and family discount added which made it a much better deal over the standard s9 imo, even though I had to pay £50 upfront.

Ah, right, so not available to everyone.

Mathing out over my current sim-only contract (3, unlimited data, 200 minutes), the unaltered contract would be £794 total for the phone and effectively an upgrade on my calls - I've never used more than 10-15GB in a month. I think I can manage a little better.

What cases and screen protectors are you guys using and what do you think of them?

I've just received my S9+ but don't want to use it outside until I protect it :)

I was the same lol. Currently im using Spigen Hybrid Neo and a Spigen Glass screen protector. Case is fine but the screen protector is crap, it's perfectly fine for touch sensitivity but i've caught the top of the protector a few times and its started to come off so ive had to press it back down. At some point i will get a better screen protector

Spigen Neo sucks. Worst Spigen case I've ever used. The plastic frame is thin and weak, and after a while the paint will begin to come off it revealing the plastic beneath. You'll probably end up looking for a new case like me soon rather than later.

For screen protectors a Whitestone Dome is your only bet really. It is expensive though and the installation a bit complicated but it is miles better than the junk out there as it practically feels like the stock glass.

I can get the s9 for £389 (£100 off via perkbox plus £250 tradein for an old s7 I have knocking around).

Thinking about selling my oneplus 5T and giving the s9 a try

Usual OP niggles are annoying me

Thoughts?

Agreed, had one on my note 4. awful case and the sharp edges around the usb made it uncomfortable to hold. Would not buy again.

I had a Spigen Tough Armour for a while then got a Ringke Onyx which I prefer. Very similar cases really but just prefer the Ringke. As an edit I should say the Spigen maybe offers slightly more protection should you drop the S9. My top tip is - don't drop it, it won't end well

For screen protector I'm using a Dome Glass. I'd not have bothered with one but noticed the S9 glass is softer than the S7 and S8, for that matter, and seemed to scratch S7. So apart from a small air bubble the Dome Glass was good until yesterday. Yesterday a crack appeared across the middle of the dome glass then today 3 more have appeared and seem to start from left edge of first crack. Not sure why this has happened as hasn't been dropped.
