The 'Official' Screenshot & Tips thread 4 FSX enthusiasts & flight simmers.

Folks.. can I ask.. what is the advantage of these multiplayer sessions of Fsx? I mean if you dont know the people and when you fly around how do you know where they are etc? I guess the real question what does it bring to the game?

With VATSIM, you have ATC and pilots. If ATC is online, they'll be the ones ensuring your speed, height restrictions and spacing between aircraft. When to taxi, take off, vectoring onto the ILS and when to land. When they're not online, you have to use the radar and 'unicom' text messages to let people know your intentions.

As for what it brings to the game, my FSX experiences were 'okay' without VATSIM, but my enjoyment increased 20x with online flying.

I'm trying to learn to use the FMC. Total mind boggle. I'll get there though.

The FMC is a tough nut to crack. I learnt the ATR-72 one first and then progressed to the iFly 737. V and Chaders helped along the way. If you have either of those two aircraft, I can help you.

Got the shared cockpit business up and running but I did have to open UDP Ports 6112 to 6122 through the router on for the host PC. Don't recall seeing that mentioned on the Virgin Forum linked to above.

That's great to hear and thanks for the added info.

For those interested in VATSIM, in a shared cockpit, you can see/hear all that needs to be done for flying online with the added benefit of someone with more experience.

The Cessna 172 is a great plane to start with.

Come join us. Blue has offered a number of times to join him on Vatsim. He is very clued up and very knowledgeable when it comes to flying.

You will not regret it I promise. It really does increase your enjoyment by 100% ;). Yes at first it can be quite overwhelming but you soon get over that.
We get on mumble so Blue can help you if you get stuck with the calls etc. He has loads of websites, notes he can send you, so you can print them out and have them at your desk to guide you along the way. I have mine all printed and on my desk before I start each flight.

Just come try it. If its not your thing at least you gave it a go.

I will be online a little later if anybody is about.

I'll be online with you guys soon it's just doing my head in trying to modify fsx for my system. Problem I'm currently having is sids not showing in PMDG FMC. I'll try a reinstall if that doesn't work then I'll have to ask on the pmdg forums.

Jason I recommend using Navigraph for your FMC data. It's not too expensive. It will update your FMC with the latest sids and stars.

Very easy to do.

Played some more with the shared cockpit stuff this morning but this time had a 3rd player in as a 2nd plane. However whenever the student was given control in the shared aircraft that aircraft's position was not updated correctly to the third (non sharing) player :( If stationary it stayed put, if it was airborne the 3rd player saw the plane continue with the tradejectory the plance had when control was passed over. However the speed was sent so if the student landed the plane fell out of the sky. If control was passed back to the sharer then the 3rd person would suddenly see the plane appear in the correct position. Very frustrating.

Hope you followed that!

Couple of questions please.

I'm having some issues with my joystick. Ever plane I fly it just wants to pull me to the left the whole time, a bad pull I have to really fight with it (never had this before). I've re-calibrated the joystick and still I have this issue. :confused:Anybody had this issue or know a fix please?

How do you avoid seeing snow on the ground? I know its winter and I know we getting some snow but the whole of the UK cant be snowed in?

What Joystick? My old logitech extreme 3d pro used to do that. Contacted logitech and they said it was a driver issue (which it isnt) so i complained and they gave me either a 50% or 75% off so i bought a new one, works fine now.

Yes that's the one. I's strange, it has never done it before. Which one do you recommend please?

That FTX Global looks mental, will defo drop £ on that one. Stupid FSX default textures cant wait to be rid of them.

I hope someone makes a new sim, FSX is creaking. But still chuggin along thanks to Orbx and all the other great addon sceneries and planes!!

I bought an other one... haha. If you bought it new, Logitech generally have good customer service, they will either swap it or give you money off.

It all depends on what you want (throttle quadrant ect) and your budget

V, has a recent Windows update cocked-up the driver? Good service if that's the case with a replacement from Logitech!

KatanaDV20, Creaking on an i7?

I had a nice exercise I set myself over the weekend. I have 2 PCs next to eachother running Windows 7.

I made it so Plan-G, FSINN and Aivlasoft EFB are now running on the 2nd PC freeing up some resource on my main PC and then in turn FPS for FSX.

Lots of documentation on the internetz helped out. I tried it out last night with a few circuits at Bristol on VATSIM and everything was peachy. I had my USB headset plugged in to the 2nd PC. and PTT was the last thing to get right.

The downside would be firing up the 2nd PC just for VATSIM and the heat that was coming off two PCs may be problematic in hotter weather.

Get that i7 920 overclocked!!!

Your 920 should do 3.6 - 4.0 Ghz with a decent cooler no problem

4.0Ghz is the generally agreed "sweet-spot" for FSX...it wont 'chugg along'

Cheers mate, I went ahead and got it and now my sids and stars are showing. :)

On another note, does anyone know if FS Global 2010 impacts fps much? I'm getting a solid 25fps with all addons (PMDG, rex, gex, ect ect) so don't wanna really drop from this.

I've started getting this as well. Haven't a clue what's causing it. Pelting down the runway and the plane just starts turning left. Annoying to say the least.

I went for a quick flight last night on VATSIM. Manchester to Aldergrove to check out my new 2 x PC setup.

Manchester Ground, Tower and London North were online for ATC coverage.

It worked reasonably enough after 2 crashes of FSX. Surprisingly, the FSX PC was showing a really high CPU usage in task manager so goodness knows how it was coping running everything else.

It still requires some tweaking, but it could prove a useful until a new PC comes along.

So who's using Opus weather?

When are we next flying online?! :p:o

Is "auto-rudder" disabled or enabled? I'd guess it is enabled. Try disabled and see if it makes any difference.

I haven't been flying in a while as Windows 8 is randomly freezing for no apparent reason and nothing logged in event log either. Very odd (and annoying).

I'm back online now. Internet down for a few days.

Mate, I've not done anything different from when it was working last week. I bought the joystick from eBay a few years back so I wouldn't be able to get a replacement.

Going to try do what Ringo said below.

Cheers Ringo. Will try that and see if it makes any difference. I have a copy of Windows 8 but not going to upgrade just yet. I read a few forums with people having issues.

Sounds like you nearly there with the setup blue. I'm sure it will be fine until your rig of all rigs arrives! ;)

I read a article a while back that Opus is very good. I still think Rex is great. I have active sky but think Rex is 50% times better.

I'm around tonight from about 8 and tomorrow.
