Ah yes forgot about PI, I tried it quickly just now:

Default OFF in Nvidia PI:
  • 06-09-2023, 08:33:12 Starfield.exe benchmark completed, 6052 frames rendered in 44.687 s
  • Average framerate : 135.4 FPS
  • Minimum framerate : 119.2 FPS
  • Maximum framerate : 156.1 FPS
  • 1% low framerate : 86.3 FPS
  • 0.1% low framerate : 76.5 FPS
Forced in Nvidia PI:
  • 06-09-2023, 08:41:42 Starfield.exe benchmark completed, 6047 frames rendered in 45.125 s
  • Average framerate : 134.0 FPS
  • Minimum framerate : 119.8 FPS
  • Maximum framerate : 155.8 FPS
  • 1% low framerate : 89.5 FPS
  • 0.1% low framerate : 80.0 FPS
No meaningful difference which is probably why Nvidia didn't enable it in the driver with the game ready driver geared for Starfield. The OP's improvements could well be variance run difference maybe? He is using frame gen too with some optimised settings according to the post, I am using Ultra settings.

Well, you could 'optimistically' say it gives a 4% improvement to 1% lows which isn't nothing - but in practical use you're unlikely to notice the difference.

And yeah, I've already seen posts saying rebar 'massively' improves the framerate on Starfield

4080 with 7800X3D and it's just eating this game up at 1440p. Averaging about 120-144(vysnc)fps inside, and around 80-100FPS outside.

Don't even think i'll bother with DLSS mod.

edit: thats ultra. My CPU/GPU arn't even being melted.

That's the ship I have my eye on. Nearly have the credits to buy it too. Might get that and then after build a ship in a few weeks.

Yeah it's decent, I had the Mantis for ages but it's cargo size was killing me.. I've been going around doing all the weapons and science research and you need so many different materials to unlock the research, the Shieldbreaker is deffo fitting the bill for now, tanky as **** too.

Also, wtf is it with the NPCs in this game? I've got Sam Coe currently following me, when I'm in a room talking to somebody as part of a quest, he's doing zoomies around the room like a jack russell.. I think Bethseda needs to write some code to have them calm the **** down lol.

OK, played it for a few hours. With my new potato pc(Ryzen 7 5700X and RTX3060TI) a QHD on medium settings, high crowd density, no upscaling and no dynamic resolution getting between 35~60FPS. Game is quite smooth despite this. Also using old drivers so need to see if the new ones help.

You can use DLSS anywayand get a bump in image quality (stability) though so worth that alone, even if it's not for any fps gains.

Thought I'd push the boat out and update my graphics card driver for the first time since installing the card on the 26th of july
Made no difference but hey, new is new right? :p
Turns out there was a new driver as of 28th August :D

Wish there were actual Belters though!
would a new faction for a DLC...just call them space nomads, like the quarians or the belters

a couple of the presets looked suspiciously like Naomi or Amos I thought!

when character preset mods start to proliferate theres no doubt going to be dozens of holdens! and starship plans are also going to be ripe for sharing

In Skyrim they would strut around or sit down and start eating.

So can this be played with a controller or is mouse and keyboard the superior option?

Quite like the idea of playing with controller on the laptop but if it's better with M&KB I'll go that route

I'm playing it at the desk with a PS4 controller with the desk chair in full gangster lean at the lowest setting with my legs stretched out ;)

No complaints with an XBox controller - although I had to map flight controls to Inverse Y and Bethesda's menus/inventory are ah... eccentric shall we say? :D
