The *Official* Supreme Commander Thread

lol that was a good idea a mobile shield unit and just plasma firing bots.... that would make the transport the deadliest/cheapest weapon available..... glad they took it out!

Im sending out my SC unit in games a lot more now... I feel he can handle most units, but those pesky gunships and artilery gotta watch out for they can be deadly at Tech1 levels.... tech2 id do some damage and return back to safe areas with my turrensts/air turrents.

Question

I tend to be loosing a lot (5 times in a row to be exact!) on maps with water, I dont like the naval yard and rarely use it but I find im being harrased and owned by my m8s destroyers.... even 1-2 heavy gunships are difficult to take it down and so is having tech 2 artilery and shields dont help for long either, whats the work around other then getting a naval yard and submerines/crusiers/destroyers of my own ?

Would T3 bombers be any good though? there slower and I reckon the destroyers/crusiers will proberly take them out before they got to them they tend to have very good AA as well especially the cruisers....

Shielding doesnt last with destroyer artilery and my tech2 artilery can even see them shooting a mile away thats with a radar/scouts in area even...

Theres gotta be another good option other then build a naval yard lol?

torpedo bombers and t3 bombers backed up with a load of t1 and t3 air fighters as flak, or just send out about 30 gunships :p

Basically, anything will take them down in enough numbers, but subs i reccomend, as they are cheap and do the job without recieving return fire (much) Or more ideally, a combination of base defence/sea defence/air units/water units... more variety and they need more variety to deal with it...

Destroyers, battleships (and even cruisers to some extent) are offensive weapons. For the most part, subs are defensive weapons.

I would advise building a naval facility, and 5 or 6 subs. They aren't expensive and they don't take too long to build. Build a T2 torpedo launcher close to your naval fac to protect against enemy subs and frigates early on, and keep your subs behind them until you intend to use them. Bring them out and take down the fleet sent to you - subs first, then destroyers, then whatever else is left (order of threat to your own subs).

Also, as mentioned above, all naval vessels (but particularly Aeon ones) are vulnerable to air power. A few tech 3 strategic bombers will take anything short of a battleship down immediately.

All this said, I really suggest you get into the idea of naval power. They have huge range and mobility, and it's no surprise that you keep losing if you avoid using it. If you really hate the navy, the avoid maps with water period.

is there a way to send, say, 1 bomber and 1 interceptor together at the same speed as the slowest unit (so the bomber here)

I often find that 30 interceptors have been taken down long before bombers arrive when i would be using the interceptors to take the aa fire while bombers take out power, mass etc

Yeah as much as i hate em think I can do the subs idea :)

Id like to know also on the above question... perhaps theres a way to send the flak at the same speed as the bomber.... couldnt one just click on assist so it will stay in its range and speed?

Instead of selecting all units and sending to one place, select the fastest unit and have it help the slowest one and then send the slowest one to the target

I was thinking about this. Ideally you could form "squads" of bombers, and have your interceptors guard the squad as a whole, rather than individual guardings.

Or can you...? :D

Select the fast units and then right click on the slower ones.(plus cursor should appear) (either number them and select the bombers before using help or you can just right click one bomber)

or just hold Ctrl when you give the move/attack order, which will send them all in formation at the same speed

thanks. does this work with air units i take it aswell. ie 2 transports will slow down to the same speed as bombers, intercepters etc

It works with any units.
You can have ground forces traveling at the same speed as your air units if you wanted.

Coordinated attack? although my testing kinda proves that this feature doesn't really work so well, i normally just send them both in at the same time, and if the bombers start to lag behind, click 'stop' on the faster units, and re-issue the move order once the bombers have caught up.. keep doing this untill they arrive at roughly the same time, bit long winded, but it works for me...

I've only started playing online very recently and the last few matches have been dismal. Even playing against so called 'noobs' ends up with me getting owned.

If anyone here in the same position as me wants to have a game tonight, please let me know! :(

titanium, have you watched any replays? definately the best way to learn.. i would play you, but i'm not a total n00b... although i am according to the guy who was in 350th position untill i beat him :D - sore loser, flew some planes over my base and quit :/ then was moaning in sup com chat about losing to a n00b, hehe
