The *Official* Supreme Commander Thread

why wouldnt there be air attacks aswell? To win ground attack try sneaking a T2 transport with some T3 engineers in to the back of a base and build 4,6,8 etc factories and churn out T1 attack units in a stream into their base. Or T2 if you can

As if, they would notice instantly. they will have an omni no problem at that point

how fast would that be capped?

I seen a very good tactics thread on supremecommanderhq.. I need to start looking at all the other units cause I seem to be concentrating on the t3 and above units at the moment. So I'm not a very diverse player. I'd get hammered by rushers everytime

Same here noticed tech2 units are still advanced and good, they could really do some damage along with tech3 units....

I seem to try and balance it and skip tech2 and goto 3 very soon on, rushing would own me lol

Theres one 20km map with 2 players start at the top and 2 at the bottom (like fields of isis upright and bigger) and it runs terrible. Ive played 6 player on 40km maps and it works fine and 2 player on 81km map with over 600 units and it also played fine. It just lags on that one map and feels like the game is running at 3fps almost right from the start!

Happens to loads of people, think its the sand blowing effects, i just dont play that level, despite loving it :/

Thats what i do, load of t1 engies, few other factories churning out t1 to stop the rushes, with a couple of pd, 1 or 2 air factories for ints to stop air attacks, after about 20 engies have been built, upgrade to t2, 2 t2 engies, straight to t3, (after a t2 pgen goes up) usually t3 about 8 or 9 mins in, by this point the enemy has probably picked off a few of my mex, so i just send t3 bots out, get me mex back, got a load of t3 bots by this point (15 or so) air scout the commander, and just go straight for him, game over in 15 mins :)

And against an opponent with equal resource gathering capabilities - how would you avoid a stalemate when there is only one mode of attack (ie. ground forces)?

easy, 50 galactic collossus's usually do the trick, dont take long to build either if your economy is that good.... support them with some t3 bots, and a bunch of SCU's, can get a VERY quick firebase setup outside his base and shell the poo into him.. other option ofc is to go for about 20 nukes, should help too :p

And with equal resources the opponent will be able to build a force of similar size. If you're holed up in your base building 50 GC without attacking, your opponent has the chance to do the same.

The whole idea of having 3 modes of attack (land, air, sea) is that each of the attack modes is vulnerable to another, so economic power alone is not sufficient to beat the opponent. A suitable mixture of attack and defense is required for each. With a single mode of attack the balance of power lies squarely in gaining resources rather than in tactics.

Long games always turn into nuke wars or artillery wars. Once you hit a stale mate then that is the ONLY way to break a turtles back.

You MUST be responsive to what your enemy is doing. If they go silent they are building something BIG and so if they turtle they are 90% playing for either experimentals or depending how much time has gone (over 40 mins) then they are building nukes.

Never solely rely on one thing to save the day though. By the time someone has built a nuke I can have 3 anti nukes up and running. In order for you nuke to be effective you have gotta take out his anti nuke or his ability to build more.

Defend whilst you attack and attack HARDER whilst you defend. The single most important thing I find is to push forward as FAR as you can. Don't give your enemy an inch else they will turtle or rebuild. If you hit a wall of defence then stop and stand just out of range and build T2 rockets and tac launchers and hit them so they are forced to react or loose their defence line.

All maps and unit lists are in French. Annoying, but apparently there was some kind of screw up.

The CD key is on the back of the manual, at the bottom.

Thanks for the quick reply, as for the cd key, all i got in the dvd case was the French map, a thq register now card and the game disk.

I don't seem to have a manual? :(

urh, just called the shop i bought it from and it seems they forgot to put the sheet of paper with my cd in the case with the disk. :(

Was looking forward to a good session as well.

The french tech tree is pretty much normal for this game...

Pop into 'Game' and they will issue you with an english one if you ask nicely :D i managed to scav about 5 of them.. hehe (although i know 4 other people around my area that i game with regularly, so this is the reason :).. i'm not greedy... honest )

I haven't seen Supreme Commander play yet but is it like a new updated Starcraft on steroids or something completely different

I'm a big Starcraft fan from way back patiently waiting for a worthy successor :)
