The *Official* Supreme Commander Thread

Ah ... ok thanks ... the screenies look good I have to admit ... very tempting.

If you like large-scale strategic battles, rather than small tactical battles, then go for it. Great game.

urh, just called the shop i bought it from and it seems they forgot to put the sheet of paper with my cd in the case with the disk. :(

Was looking forward to a good session as well.

Why are they supplying a sheet of paper with the key on and not the proper manual. Sounds a bit dodgy to me.

I haven't seen Supreme Commander play yet but is it like a new updated Starcraft on steroids or something completely different

I'm a big Starcraft fan from way back patiently waiting for a worthy successor :)

i love/loved starcraft and i love supreme commander. the more i play it the more i like it as i keep finding new tactics. still love the gunship rush tactic though as they are concentrating on breaking my defences.

a 'sneaky' 100 gunships around the back of someones base soon takes out their power and mass then the commander :)

of course doing this into 15 or 20 heavy sam's insnt a wise idea (once 100 gunships lasted all of 5 seconds! :(

Because Woolworth's are reet dodgy aren't they?

Anywho, i have my cdkey :)

Damm, these missions take forever to complete, i am on the aeon's 3 or 4 mission, about to get rid of the uef commanders and it takes forever to build things, in the previous mission where i had to protect nodes i got continually moaned at for being slow :(

Your economy is probably quite weak. Dont forget to ensure that your mass and energy never goes into the -'s if you can help it. Also if you have surplus mass rates you can get lots of engineers to assist a building or another engineer/commander thats building a building :S Select your engy then press 'i' and left click on the engy/building you want to help. Of course this uses up more mass but providing you have the economy can drastically reduce build times.

On the contrary, you should try to avoid taking your mass into the positive. When negative, you are using up all the mass you are producing. When positive, the relatively small store will quickly fill up, and you will begin wasting mass. Energy is usually worth keeping at 100% though, as running out of E will cause shields and radar to intermittently switch off.

To build more quickly, as firebar said, you want to use several engineers at once. As for keeping your economy up, make sure you are upgrading all your mass extractors quickly to their maximum capacity (should be T2 on that level I think?). Also, build more T2 power plants and surround them with mass fabricators - that will give you a great boost.

Power is relatively cheap and easy to produce, and you can always turn off shields / radar temporarily if you run low. Mass is really the primary resource in the game.

just have a few engineers building lines of power next to fabs in rows, that will keep your reserves up for a while

2x resources is so much better. quicker more aggressive games

thinking about going to get this tonight, is it worth it? Im a big RTS fan and i did like the demo, a little confusing though.

Can my computer handle 4 player battles?

dodgy psu (hiper), stock heatsink and although ram is decent it isnt exactly overclocking ram. I will be Clocking it soon though when i buy some new stuff just not now.

Ok here is something that's been bugging me since the demo, when you build something next to a power generator it creates a link between the generator and the structure, is there any benefit to this, or is building them in random locations where they fit on the terrain ok?

if you build something that needs a resource next to a building that produces that resource it will lower its requirements for said resource

Yep, it makes a big difference!

See some of the early pages of this thread for examples of 'arrays' to use to give you better production.

God am I crap at this game.

I allways think Im going ok, but Im not. Even againts the computer, they allways win. (skirmish)

How the hell does every one built top stuff so quick.

Its all about balancing your economy properly. Make sure you're developing as fast as possible , without storing too much up or overspending. Upgrade your mines as soon as you can afford to.
And just practise :)

In my first game on the demo I got trounced by the computer on medium, but now I'm finding skirmishes pretty mundane, even on Supreme. Having said that, I still get wiped out when I play online so I think its that the AI isnt great, rather than me being ;)

yeah the AI is rather pants!
took on 4 of the supreme AIs and ended up winning even tho I lost my commander and half my base about half way though (damn artillery) !

on another note, has anyone got the GPGnet installer? my GPGnet will not load and I can't find it anywhere to re-install!

Get some of the third party AIs. Some of them are far superior to the Supreme AI that came with the game.
The one I have is called Sorian AI.

ok why can't I log into GPGnet after getting it working!

just says
"1 Core: 1 Could no connect to GPGNet: Supreme Commander. Please check your internet connection and try again."

was working before
