Have you opened all the relevant ports on your firewall/router?
yes
even tried with firewall off
rebooted PC and router,
checked all my windows updates where done (they are)
checked EVERY fix I've found online but nothing :(

Entered my first 1v1 public game, was slaughtered by something called a snoop 2 minutes into the game. :(

It was ridiculously fast and killed all my units (6 engi's and the ACU) in one hit, it had 25007 hp as well.

This can't be right?

Last time i used it it was a low hp land scout.

OK, just got this game and I'm really liking it. However, I have a few noobie questions.....and I'm a noob at RTS in general :o These might all be in the manual as well, but that's too much like hard work....

1. Is there a way of grouping your stuff togther? Like, say, a few tanks and artillery into one unit? I know you can select multiple things obviously, but is there a way of keeping them together? I find it a major pain and quite tricky to select stuff in the heat of battle, and zoomed out its hard to tell stuff apart. Or is there a way of quickly selecting all of one particular thing

2. When you put a mass extractor down onto marked area, does it have to link into a "power grid"....or will it add to your resources even if its miles way from a base and not connected to anything?

3. When my fighter planes go off after something without my asking, they just kinda randomly set down after they've finished and end up scattered around the place. Is there a way to tell them to return to base once they've finished? It's very annoying when they've just been built and then fly off somewhere before I can give them orders, and then I can't find them quickly :o

thanks :)

select and press control & 1 for example to group stuff. select all by double left clicking (i use this a lot)

also, control and left click a group of units to move them all at the same speed (for exmaple bombers and interceptors) hold right click to move to a formation

2. When you put a mass extractor down onto marked area, does it have to link into a "power grid"....or will it add to your resources even if its miles way from a base and not connected to anything?

better if its next to power or a mass storage. it increases either or the 2 with each pump (or something like that!)

yeh this i find annoying. i just leave em scattered in a corner usually but i suppose u could hold right click and move them to a formation (as 1)

I didnt know until last week but u can also lock the freeview camera using control and V. unlock is control v again. freeview is space bar and move with mouse

thanks :)

cant be arsed putting all quote marks in n stuff, im in lazy mode

1 - select the units you want, then do ctrl-1 to group them to group 1, ctrl-2 to group to group 2 etc. You then select the group with the number keys. This is pretty much standard for all RTSs :)

2 - yes, doesn't matter where you put it.

3 - you can set them on patrol. Hold down 'shift' (queues up commands in general in this game), then give them > 4 waypoints, joining up the first with the last. They will always return to their patrol then. They will also auto-land on air service pads, but make sure yopu DO have at least one of these pads when you start the patrol, or they will quickly run out of fuel from constantly flying.

just bough this, installing now, gonna get the patchs and start playing, do you reckon i should do the tutorial first, or just jump straight into a skirmish? Also whats the best faction to play as first?

Also i no this has been asked before, but why the hell do they think we understand french? (the trech tree thing) hehe :p

nah, just go straight to skirmish with a couple of computers then to multiplayer. you'll learn much more from people playing online from replays that you will from computers

patches download automatically and theres a replay vault to look for everyones games

ok thanks, i did my first skirmish, whilst i enjoyed it i found it pretty hard, firstly my ally got pretty much every mass thing near me, i only had 3-4 throughout the whole game which stopped me from getting some really good stuff, like i was building an experimental unit and got to 85% but i didnt have enough mass so it took about half an hour to get to that, then i my shield defence went down and i died.

My only realy critisism of AI in skirmishs, is they seem to build big bases but they never attack you with land units or hardly build any.

I might look for somer replays to get some ideas on how to play better.

Play against horde AI's... they attack you... or go download some custom made AIs.. they're pretty solid too... if you watch the replays u'll notice people get a factory up producing engineers constantly pretty quickly, use these engineers to get all the mass points, not just the one's close to you... as many as you can, and then defend you'r forward positions, once u get to t3, you will end up using t3 pgens and mass fabs, then you can get building :D

Na mate they do, try some different games on different maps, im telling you coming from a seasoned TA played that the AI in this is hard (only on supreme/horde etc) but it can be cracked if you know how. Stick it on horde and on a medium size map and they will come at you hard.

Just got this game, and have to say: I don't get it. It's ok, but its nothing special. The graphics are alright, admittedly I don't have the 1 teraflop mainframe required to play it whilst there's 1000 units on the battlefield, but I've a good spec PC, and it runs ok.

The main problem I find with it is that its just too damned slow. It doesn't feel like an RTS to me, or maybe I just got to used to rushing in other one's I've played. There are some super powerful units, but they take up to 80 minutes to build (if you don't assign an armada of engineers to assist).

Decent enough game, just not really an rts.

I thought that when i first started playing, however after some practice you can get a tech 3/experimental army together pretty quickly, commander with the tech3 build upgrade and a couple of sub commanders can build experimentals in 1 or 2 mins.

Just upgraded to dual core, this game sure does need it.

platypus - I was like you at first, then i played it more and realised that if you know what your doing then in no time you can have 4 factories churning T1 stuff out, engineers and upgrading to T2. Set a few T1 engineers to build lines of power next to mass fab aswell

Had a game yesterday on 2x resource and after 20 minutes i had around 30 siege bots, 80 gunships, 50 interceptor and 30 bombers. and a huge base

Its good, but only after youve played it for a few hours

If the game feels slow, then you're not playing fast enough :P
I know what you mean, the inbuilt AI is pretty mediocre so it can feel slow playing against that, but have a game or two online and you learn to speed up pretty fast!

Basic principle of the game:
If you're making 200 metal, start aiming for 300.
If you have 4 T3 factories churning out units, start building another 4.
(And so on.) I've been playing this game since it came out and I wouldnt claim to be good at it - basically to be the best your production has got to be literally exponential.

Screengrab of a quick blast yesterday: (On a map called fastwars, which is excellent fun :))

I don't have a good enough connection to play it online sadly :(

Admittedly since I haven't played against other humans my experience has been limited. As for mass building, I usually do have several teams of engineers building masses of energy plants/mass fabs, several weapons factories etc. I think I had begun to tire when I started building an 'Ace' sub (nuclear sub), realised I had washing to do at my girlfriends house, and so cycled round, did the washing up, came back 20 minutes later and despite having a small army of engineers on it, it still hadn't finished! By the by..do T3 engineers build quicker?
