How is it then? :)

Keep hearing mixed opinions.

Some say it's good. Others say it's best to leave it 6months and it's been released much to early.

Its really good from what i've played in beta. Theres still a lot of bugs in there, which MMO hasn't? There are still quite a bit of graphic glitches and stuttering, but it doesn't bother me that much. If you like to play a polished game on high and smooth as hell all the time, this isn't for you right now. :p

I'm mainly playing Eve at present but while my miners mine, I am tempted to try Vanguard. Seems the release date is today.

OK, so it seems the game is released early for financial reasons which to me implies it may fold early. In spite of that I would still like to try it.

Is it possible to play Vanguard through completely solo. I HATE groups/gangs/guilds/corps. I enjoy playing games where other players affect me, but don't like playing with them if you see what I mean. I like the crafting side of MMORPGs and Vanguard looks to be good in this respect.

Would it run on a 2GB Athlon 2400XP Nvidia 6200 based machine running Windows 2000. Oblivion was fine on this PC with some eye candy turned off. I just want to run it to get a feel for gameplay. I will be upgrading to an uber PC later in the year but don't want to do it yet.

Thanks for any opinions offered.

Might have to pinch my lad's 6600 XP Pro PC while he is at work.

I don't think you could solo through the adventure levels, well ok maybe you could but you would defiantly be missing out on 95% of the things you can do. Crafting is totally possible to do on your own, and it's fairly fun! I usually hate crafting but I'm enjoying it.

There is no way that PC will play the game, if your lads 6600 (NVIDIA 6600?) means the GFX card that will also really struggle to play the game. I play on the lowest settings on a 6800GT and it's playable but when things start to get a little out of control it can struggle. I had no intention of playing with gorgeous graphics but I have just splashed out on a 7900GTX to make it a little more enjoyable and safer.

Not done a lot of crafting in this game, but what there is of it is good. Being able to craft houses and boats etc.

As for solo play, it'll be possible but slower than when grouping, like most other MMO's.

And it *should* run on your rig with a lot on low, the graphics side of the game is buggy at the moment so your and everyone elses performance will improve as the game is patched.

It won't fold early, almost every MMO is released before its been fully "bug free", if there is such a MMORPG. SoE are behind the game which is a big company that isn't short on money, though they did evil things to SWG, that game has hardly any playerbase and its still online.

got onto the eu server beginning Gen something... ping was 500ms :( graphics are very pretty :) But there is a lot of stuttering (1440x900 x4 or x8 AS balanced possibilly because i havent put in the extra 1 gig of ram yet) difficult to tell what the avg fps is because it jumps about a lot.

Doesnt seem to give the option of further customizing graphics settings

The interface isnt the easiest to look at. No tutorial afaik you are sort of thrown into it and left to yourself kinda.

But its promising :) will maybe try later.

My friend has this but im not convinced as of yet , ive not played a mmo for over a year so is this worth it? what makes it diffrent?

The game is made up of 3 parts
Adventuring
Diplomacy
Crafting

The world is HUGE :p
Player housing and ship building, and graphics are amazing.
Non instanced , including non instanced dungeons and the world is seamless

Official forums undergoing maintenance atm. Normal for a mmog at retail launch not to have forums?

though it does have tech support forums

here

Vanguard will only have an official tech support forum, everything else for developer communication will be through the affiliate sites. Not sure what I think of that one but that's the course they've chosen.

Been trying for hours now and nothing I do will get fsaa working for some reason. Tried forcing via the cp, editing the .ini file, turning off other settings via the menu in case they somehow disable fsaa but nothing seems to work and those jaggies are really ruining the whole look of the game for me. Is there an additional line I need to add to the ini as in eq2? I've tried changing the value of the "Antialiasing=" string to no effect.

Apart from that it seems a good game so far, definitely the best mmo I've played since wow as far as initial impressions go.

If you have a look at the archived forums, it was a bit of a cesspool. I can understand why they closed it.
