** The Official WWDC 2012 Thread **

Tempted to get the new Retina MBP to replace my desktop. Just unsure if I could make the switch, but I really really want to...

Will let you all know if I order tomorrow ;)

If i had the cash I would ditch my iMac for one of those MBP's in a second :)

What i've learned about growing up (relevant to the above):
1) Your parents house tends to be quite a bit bigger then what you can afford (firstly) with your partner, so
2) Space is at a premium and..
3) Trying to find room to put a 27" iMac is really difficult

Once again it appears Apple have missed the boat and omitted the only functions most people jailbreak for, from it's new OS.

The ability to quick reply to messages, and the ability to quickly switch things like wi-fi, 3G etc on and off are still seemingly not present in IOS6.

Ridiculous.

I think I can make the switch, esp as all my media can go through my new (living room dominating) Sharp 60" TV :D

One of the big bonuses for me would be its portability and the attraction of 'instant on' computing with the new deep sleep mode (like the Air)

REALLY tempted to order an iMac right now...

You know without question it has to get a Ivy Bridge upgrade soon to stop it being laughed at.

They can't charge premium prices if they don't keep up with the curve.

I guess it will be bumped a bit when ML is released.

Do you think there is enough life-span buying them now? I'm in the same boat.

I think even the baseline spec is very good. USB3 doesn't bother me in the slightest (I have a mouse plugged into my MBP right now and that is basically the only thing that ever gets plugged in), Thunderbolt is already in there, stunning display etc.

Also in the boat, was looking at moving to a Mac Mini from this MBP but bumping the Mini's specs to suitability, plus a Magic Trackpad and Apple keyboard and AppleCare put it £10 behind the baseline iMac (including AppleCare). Seems a no brainer to me.

Yeah, because ultimately if the new ones come out I'll still be able to sell it for a decent amount if I decide to upgrade.

My current machine I bought in 2007...it has lasted me since then...if I keep this for a similar amount of time then it makes a lot of sense.
