*** The Official X1950 Pro Thread ***

Erm i have a 19" monitor and use 1152x res for desktop only. Ingames i use higher res as the text is usually scaled up to be readable in them high res like 1600x1200. Yes the refresh rate is worse as in 72mhz but its not that bad. But gaming at 1280x1024 which is fine and what a lot of ppl use. And yes the text and stuff is readable ingames at that res.

Just remember you can have 1 res set for desktop and another totally seperate res for each game in the ingame options screen.

About the refresh rates ingames, most games dont use what the desktop refresh rate is set at. Most times most games have it set at 60mhz. Few games actually allow you to set refresh rate for the game you play in their options screens. ATI CCC has a default refresh rate override function so find what res you never go past and set res to what the max res you game at is and ccc will force games to use that res i think.

I recently set mine to 70 as some games i do is 1600x res like gta sa. So i set ccc to use max refresh at that max res my monitor can do. If i was only ever gaming 1280x1024 then id set to 85 in ccc. Or if using 1152 id use 100mhz.

i cant play in 1280x1024 because in some parts of games it shakes to much so there is something wrong with my system, hopefully after ive got my ram im not going to be moaning anymore

maybe its my monitor not that its old 2years,im getting a tft soon so maybe it will clear it up or make it worse

if its not ram or monitor it leaves the cpu then mobo which again is 2years old

when my system was built i was so happy having a decent pc after having a slow laptop,it gets on my nerves knowing my pc should handle games but it doesnt and it was not cheap :(

my spec is:

xp pro
image quest q995 crt
Asus A8N-SLI Premium
AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3700+
ATI HIS x1950pro
Western Digital Caviar WD2500JB
1 gig ram (2 gig on monday) (geil ram)

Not a bad spec. With adding on ram i doubt u can use dual channel mode on it tho. Tho 2gb is still better than 1gb as will help stop stutter in games like bf2 etc.

im thinking the ram i have now might be a bit dodgy (more like hope) i thought instead of buying 1gig again ill go for 2,but 1gig still should not be getting splutters shaking

roll on monday ;)

oyea what do you mean dual channel mode?

if you mean two sticks of ram yes i can

With my new connect3d radeon x1950pro I am still getting the problem with oblivion and other intensive games, when the system decides to hang and the fan on the gxf card goes absolutely nuts.

Any ideas how i can solve this?

AGP bus speed

I found increasing AGP speed to 72.Xmhz gave me about 300 points (4%) more on 3Dmark2005 at default clocks, going to 80mhz about another 100 taking me to 8230.

Does this make sense? Using a Sapphire X1950Pro AGP on an Asus P4P800SE MB.

I suffered fan noise.

The card was fitted vertical so it wasn't as noticeable. Turned case on side so card was horizontal as if in a tower case (fan facing down), and it became obvious the fan was duff.

Not had any success with the blue-tack mod or applying pressure to the fan to see it click locks.

The fan moves in and out on its axes and clips the shroud causing the noise. And worsens when horizontally positioned as gravity keeps the fan constantly in contact with shroud.

So can give that a try by placing your case on different sides.

ive taken it out going to send it back i dont want something thats going to be noisy as my pc is in my bedroom, and its not a option lying on its side

cheers for letting me know

do i have to phone up to rma or can it be done in my account

No wigster, you just need to send them a webnote, go down to third section in link below. Good luck with the RMA.

OcUk have found my Connect3d X1950pro to be faulty and are sending me out a replacement for today :)
Hopefully things will be alright with this one.

So there I am a few weeks ago chatting with my mate Javier Señor Warthog on the phone, he's the guy who told me about the x1950Pro back in December, anyway he's got the Sapphire x1950 Pro 256MB Vanilla edition and was proving to be a bit noisy for the old Warthog so I suggested he use a third-party HSF to hush up his system, in particular I pointed out the Arctic Cooling Accelero X2. I have some experience of this from using a Power-Colour x1950 Pro which comes with one of these coolers prefitted and found them to be really good (albeit too large for the build I was doing).

So the muncher of Chorizo called me up yesterday to pick my brain. He had ordered the Accelero X2 and replaced his stock cooler, big difference in sound but there was the small problem of his PC crashing if he played any game!! :o

We chatted on the phone and I explained to him some things that I had read here on these forums and he had a look a bit more closely at his old stock Sapphire heatsink, it seemes the Accelero X2 doesn't cover up all the stuff that the stock heatsink did, in particular the vrm? near where the power-plug is.

I spoke with him today and he seemed a bit more upbeat, turns out he's ordered a few of these from hong-kong. I'm quite suprised this 'Voltage Regulator Heat Spreader Module' doesn't come as standard with the Accelero X2? (I don't recall anything like this fitted to the power-colour card?).

Just thought I would let you guys know just in case you run into the same issue. if anyone has modded there card with an Accelero X2 abd it worked fine lemme know pls . . .

I assume your talking about the PCI-E X1950 Pro's since you mentioned a Sapphire 256MB card, but just to clarify for the all AGP X1950 Pro users who may read this, that VRM Heatspreader is not designed for our cards. Confirmed by Arctic Cooling.

OK its not designed for it BUT can we use an Accelero X2 without something like that? ie is its not designed for the AGP version or is it just not needed for AGP version?

Just thought I would say I like my X1950 Pro (PCI-E variety) - sapphire 256mb version - using it in an conroe htpc, going to look into how to slow the fan down a little as its a tad loud but not too bad.

Also have to find out how I have managed to set my desktop resolution to 1920*1200 when the TV I am using has just 1366*768 (Samsung HDTV 32")
