**The one and only Official BioShock Thread**- now with added **SPOILERS**

Well, they need to do something about this texture problem before the full game is released. ATi can't just wait until next month!

Yep true. I was aware that the game was running ok with the latest drivers from ATi in DX10 but what I was not aware was the missing textures. ATi will almost definetly be releasing a hotfix for this :)

All day for a 1.8gb file no I don't think so Forn my friend. Most uploads go up in an hour or so at ridiculous upload speeds :p

Anyway back to the demo;

Wow.

The IQ is a ton better over the 360 version
It's smoother, with everything maxed @ 1680x1050 I got anything between 50-150fps. It went up into the hundreds quite a bit of the time.
No frame rate hitches
Without VSYNC the tearing is extreme
One of the best running games to be released for the PC in a long time and a breath of fresh air.

I think the rest of the industry needs to sit down and ask themselves why the hell there are not more games like this.

The difference is 1fps between DX9 and DX10 in Bioshock with the non "bioshock" nvidia drivers on a 8800GTS :)

Im hearing similar things with the 2900, just like the devs said DX10 mode takes no hit. Only problem is a few missing textures but rest assured I have contacted ATi and things will be progressing. Hopefully a hotfix is on the way

It looks superb if you ask me, it might not support AA right now but you don't notice any jaggies in game.

This is true, even if there are ways to enable it. I won't be using it. It just dosn't need it. Once your in game you can see why.

NO AA is supported?? Your joking right? We need 7.9 drivers asap. I just thought the Xbox360 demo looks better.

get down to specsavers ffs.

1280x1024 all on max, vsync off. avg 70, lowest 50, max 140
doing a propper test now

Looks like my 2900 is running even faster than your GTX @ 1280x1024

Fraps.

Im going to re run through the demo and do a Fraps benchmark so we can get an idea of MIN, MAX AVG fps.

Done the Fraps benchmark,

Everything maxed @ 1680x1050 specs in sig

Min Max Avg
36 142 77.255

That whilst playing through the whole demo :D

Wow, a 2900 outdoing a GTX. Suprised.

Im not tbh, the 2900 out did the GTX on R6V this was bound to follow suit. Also it dipped to 36 fps on the water bridge part as somthing was loading after that it was back up to 60 odd on the bridge :D

:D JUST PLAYED DEMO :D

At my native res of 1360x768:
Vsync on it either does 60fps (mostly) or 30fps.
Vsync off & where it was doing 30 it now does 57  but with lots of tearing :(

Anyway its early days yet, are there some drivers on the way?

look bubbles, an angel..... creepy stuff

Yea if the FPS goes below 60 the engine locks to 30fps

With VSYNC on it goes

60
30
15

afaik.

I have some disappointing news. Those of you with X-Fi cards who wish to enable EAX will experience a considerable reduction in frame rate :( I've been experimenting with the settings and with EAX enabled performance drops by around 20 FPS. Something tells me that the 64MB of RAM on my X-Fi isn't being utilised.

BAH! I have an XFI so it looks like I'll get even more performance than I am now  with EAX off.

Not stuttering. Just a large drop in FPS, nearly a 20 FPS drop at times infact. It was already pretty smooth, but with EAX off its now running like a hot knife through butter.

I just ran through half the demo again with the fraps benchmark I got around the same give or take a few fps so it seems EAX dosnt affect me.

Well I've just been playing it.. Although it runs smooth as anything, the water textures don't display properly, also seem to be getting some seethrough textures!

Hello mate I take it you are in Vista in which case the game defaults to DX10 mode. ATi having problems with DX10 mode atm. So for now play in DX9 to do this...

If you experience graphics corruption or stability issues on Windows Vista using ATi DirectX 10 hardware (eg Radeon HD 2xxx), please launch the game in DirectX 9 mode. This is done by right clicking the Bioshock icon in the game explorer and selecting "Play-DirectX9".

Oh I forgot about this one: does anyone find the mouse sensitivity very high? Even on 1 I find it very sensitive, I usually have it pretty low and it seemed ridiculously snappy even on the lowest setting.

My gripe is the fact we can't walk :(

Cheers Tom, hope they get it sorted for release.. Would like full DX10! However.. Game Explorer? I probably don't get that being on Vista Business..

Should be out at 12am tonight

This has just been posted on The Cult of Rapture site

WAIT FOR THE OFFICIAL DEMO DOWNLOAD TONIGHT AT 7 PM EDT
August 20, 2007

While there are versions of the BioShock demo available now on the web for download, I recommend you waiting until 7 PM tonight to download yours. The official release is timed so that you can optimize your system with the latest drivers that will make the game run as smoothly as possible. Running BioShock with outdated drivers may impact your performance, so if you do happen to play the demo before the 7 PM launch time, please be sure to check your system again after grabbing the latest and greatest drivers as a true measure of performance and quality.

I also didn't need a password for those files

Cool, at least ATI are on the ball with the drivers! :)

Might leave it then until I can play it properly.. Shame as I was looking forward to it all day! :(

Meh, can't even play CSS cos the connections getting battered here by someone!

Play it in DX9 mode the changes with DX10 are very subtle anyway.
