But why be so obsessed about it? I don't think someone's inherent/biological sex can be changed either, but I don't give a **** if someone wants to try and change their bodily features, and wants to identify as a different gender.

What does affect me, is the potential hassle and outcomes for outlining objective reality - or truth, the opposite of misinformation - may have should I fall into one of the many traps set by activist types. People get obsessed about things they believe in. This is one of those battlegrounds.
When someone announces they have changed sex and you reply "No, you have not", would you do that confidently at work? On a public forum? National TV? Radio? I bet most people now will be terrified and instead agree, out of being 'nice' to our fellow human and in effect perpetuate a mistruth and this type of misinformation is apparently 'good' misinformation.
