The ongoing Elon Twitter saga: "insert demographic" melts down

But why be so obsessed about it? I don't think someone's inherent/biological sex can be changed either, but I don't give a **** if someone wants to try and change their bodily features, and wants to identify as a different gender.

It just simply doesn't matter or affect me in any way.

It doesn't affect me either. I also share your view.

What does affect me, is the potential hassle and outcomes for outlining objective reality - or truth, the opposite of misinformation - may have should I fall into one of the many traps set by activist types. People get obsessed about things they believe in. This is one of those battlegrounds.

When someone announces they have changed sex and you reply "No, you have not", would you do that confidently at work? On a public forum? National TV? Radio? I bet most people now will be terrified and instead agree, out of being 'nice' to our fellow human and in effect perpetuate a mistruth and this type of misinformation is apparently 'good' misinformation.

Surely you just follow the law. If they have legally complied then as far as I am concerned if they say they have changed sex then they have. If they haven't then they haven't and I would have no issue with saying "legally you haven't changed sex so I don't recognise it"

I've spent my life tip toeing around people's delusions/false believes/stupid thoughts.

Adding a few more on to the pile makes no difference to me.

Why be confrontational in the first place? Instead of replying "no, you have not" to that statement, you could just say "ok", or say nothing. Why do you feel the need to challenge it in the first place? Do you challenge absolutely every false thing someone has said to you in your life? That must be exhausting.

I've had religious people say nonsense to me for my whole life (even my grandma was deeply religious), but i wouldn't just be a confrontational **** for the sake of it, if what they were doing or saying had no detrimental affect on my life.

Religious beliefs are in fact something to worry about on a wider scale though. Someone wanting to be the opposite gender is not.

Why do you accept some lies, but challenge and call out others?

You either believe in objective reality, or you do not - which is it?

I know which side I fall on, and I won't be compelled to go along with it. However, because authoritarian tendencies (political correctness gone mad!11one) in society are becoming more popular, it's becoming increasingly risky to state truth. That risk, and threat, means people like you guys above, go along with it - can you not see the possibility of what that type of control can lead to?

Its certainly interesting.
When you look at the actual definition of biological sex (refers to biological differences between males and females (e.g. gonads, sexual organs, chromosomes, hormones"

We have certainly blurred the edges of that definition. Once you consider people who have had surgery, and are taking hormone replacements.
IMO its only a matter of time before we start via gene therapy pushing the boundary even further, ie getting into the chromosomes area.

You probably shouldn't have started it then.
Just sayin

Someone asked, in a totally good faith manner, why people were obsessed with trans.

I was pointing out, in a thread where everyone is moaning about misinformation on twitter, that some misinformation seems to get free pass. It's almost as if it's not the things being said, it's who is saying them.

This is an imagined problem. Trans people generally don’t announce that they’ve changed sex. The language used by trans people, the law and medical professionals centres around gender, not sex.

But you took a very specific segment for starters, a tiny sub set, that as I replied is certainly open to interpretation if you have an open mind
and your using that as "misinformation"

I am not particularly invested in trans by any way, but I try to keep my mind open enough that I can see a big flaw in your argument. You seem to have made your mind up and closed it in this case.

Your basically strawmanning.

Well done on noticing that is a totally imagined scenario. Almost as if it was intentional hypothetical.

And you are certainly projecting.

If "facts" are open to interpretation then surely you should STFU about all of the questionable stuff the crazies on twitter spout as that is also open to interpretation? You've trapped yourself in your own net you twonk.

But you still haven't answered as to why it is such a big new problem?

Basically some people are doing something that you don't agree with, but that does not harm or affect your life in any way shape or form.

Also, for the record, i do not accept the lies of religion, but if it is practised individually and those beliefs help an individual find peace, then who am I to stop them? As long as it has no detrimental affect on my life, i simply do not care. Same goes for transgender people. However, considering gender is in relation to the cultural and social differences, and not biological ones, there isn't anything particularly false or delusional in identifying as anything.

Biologically, and in terms of "sex", I agree that you cannot change this as such (although even then you do get intersex people where it is not clear which "sex" they can defined as).

But i fail to see why this whole transgender thing is such an absolutely massive problem in right wing spheres. The same spheres that believe in made up deities and all sorts of unscientific religious nonsense.

What are you on about.

I suggest you go and read up on if you choose to ignore my posted description on what constitutes "biological"

You can take an extremely hardcore version of that. You can also take a more open and balanced definition.

Your seemingly very confused.

You seem confused.

You appear to believe I am debating the details of trans with you. I am not, and suggest you go to the SC if you want to do that. All I can gather from your persistence is you all so desperately want to call me a transphobe. My stance, as state above when agreeing with @Jono8 in post 16,641 is that whatever individuals do to themselves is none of by business, and I am please they feel happier for doing so.

You are choosing to ignore my points, which is around why you go along with some information that is "open to interpretation" but so vociferous in crying misinformation about other information that is also "open to interpretation".

I confused as to why you brought something up then didn't want to debate it.
I guess it was just bad faith seeing as you now seem to want to fob it off.

Ok I get it, you like to throw things out there and not have them challenged.
Free speech I guess, with no consequences, yep your fitting the mould alright ;)

If it honestly doesn't affect you nor do you truly care, why would you reply with something that is clearly a provocation? Why would you not just saying nothing, or at the very best give an "Ok", and move on with your life?

Nothing to see here, just Tesla recalling almost every car they've sold in the US because the software is crap.

DETROIT (AP) — Tesla is recalling nearly all of the vehicles it sold in the U.S., more than 2 million across its model lineup, to fix a defective system that’s supposed to ensure drivers are paying attention when they use Autopilot.

Documents posted Wednesday by U.S. safety regulators say the company will send out a software update to fix the problems.

The recall comes after a two-year investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration into a series of crashes that happened while the Autopilot partially automated driving system was in use. Some were deadly.

The agency says its investigation found Autopilot’s method of ensuring that drivers are paying attention can be inadequate and can lead to foreseeable misuse of the system.
