The Opteron Skt 939 Overclocking thread !!!!

My opteron is CAB2E 0545, i have it at stock volts, (1.4) and running at 2.7GHZ any higher and my system wont boot. Has this type of opteron managed to go any higher on air ? My spec is in my sig, or can i just increase the V Core volts to get more OC of my opteron, I am new to this OC you see and some kind people on here guided me to how to oc it. Or should i just sit back and be happy with 2.7ghz

Thanks

From my experience with a CAB2E 0545 CPMW i had to use atleast 1.45 volts to get 2.8 and 1.55 volts to get 2.9. The chip maxed out at 2.92 stable with 1.57 volts.
Will also depend on whether you memory is maxed out too ? if running 1:1 and your memory is decent 3200 to 4000 then maybe the ram is maxed out so try a 6:5 divider or anything lower than 1:1.

Hope that helps.

so if i just go into the BIOS and move my Vcore up to 1.45 i may get it to boot then at 2.75 ? as at standard vcore 1.4v at 2.75 it wont boot, but at 2.7 it will.
?

It may boot but it might not be stable. Have you primed the chip at 2.7 with 1.4v? i have the same stepping and it needs 1.5v to be prime stable at 2.7 :(

I have not primed it, but it has been working fine for the last 4 weeks at 2.7GHZ,

Anyhow, just tried 1.45 and 1.5 v and 2.74mhz and no boot up at all, had to do a reset, back to normal now though (2.7)

CHef...... As i stated in my message...... Will also depend on whether you memory is maxed out too ? if running 1:1 and your memory is decent 3200 to 4000 then maybe the ram is maxed out so try a 6:5 divider or anything lower than 1:1.
In CPU-z What is the Memory running at ? MHz wise ? and what is your Memory rated at ? PC3200 = 200MHz, PC3500 = 217MHz, PC4000 = 250MHz ??

If CPU-z Memory reading is higher than your ram stock rated MHz then you need to use a MEMORY divider.

My memory is in my sig, 2x512MB OCZ Dual Channel Gold,
Now in CPU-z under memory tab this is what i have:
it is 2 x 512 mb "3200"

frequency 180.0 mhz
fsb:dram cpu/15
cas#latency 2.5 clocks
ras# to cas# delay 3 clocks
ras# precharge 3 clocks
cycle time (tras) 7 clocks
bank cycle time (tras) 11 clocks
dram idle timer 16 clocks

I quess this is what you meant ?

Yea thats what i meant Thanks !
Ok So memory seems fine, Other things you can do/check are.
The HTT multiplier which should be 3, if its at four then try 3.
The HTT voltage, try raising it a little .1 or .2 of a volt
Chech weather memory is running at the right Volts (should be but your actually underclocking the ram so this shouldnt be a problem)
Or it maybe that you mobo is the problem. I've never used an Asrock to cant comment.
Not sure what the Max HTT that board can run at :(
Have you updated the BIOS recently? Try that ?

I have never really overclocked b4 so i'm advising you on stuff i had to frig around with on my 1st OC.

Give it a go and post back.

opty 170
1.35 volts. on cpu 2.8v on ram for 2.7 gig
1.4v on cpu 2.8 ram 2.9
htt speed 1159

Itll prime for 5 hrs torture test at 2.9 dual prime, but falls over after that at 1.4/45 volts.Ill try more and see if it will do the three gigs like the screenie, but am wondering if its just my board or ram or if its the memory divider on the chip.

I did memtest at 2.9gig and failed test 8 a lot but passed others inc 5.

So ill try a few more volts here and there then go back to over clocked ram 450mhz 166 divider and 2.7 gig cpu.Or do i back it off from here stay at 133 divider and get lower than 400mhz but what, a better cpu clock?
so confusing,Similar overclocking hurdles as my 146 so far.But this one seems more fun.what with this still on my mind

is there anyway to overclock each cpu individually?

Also please what are the updates i need for xp for dual core opterons?sorry if im missing the obvious

Any help to ease the pain^^^

Thanks for sharing advice and thats a really good clock you got going there, devious.

Hey GlasgowTitan, you got prime stable?

Your memtest failing in test 8 is because oyur mem is at 1T on the Asrock board, same for everyone even though it can be prime stable. I notice your on one of the beta bios's so Im surprised you get get 1T stable. What happens if you press print screen then paste it into microsoft paint ? Every one else gets a restart...

I notice your running a Artic Freezer Pro on your chip.. are they all they're cracked up to be? I've heard a lot of good things..

Also your running 1.5v on a Asrock board.. what bios are you running?

Sorry bout all the questions.. Just I've got the same board and a 146 coming in the next few days.. and need to be prepared :)

Ive got the Arctic on the Asrock dual cooling a [email protected]@1.5v (or just above)

I am using beta bios 2.

The cooler is very good for the money, no backplate required and fits on the existing clips so very easy to put on/ take off.

Very quite too.......to my ears anyway.

Not as good as say a Typhoon cooler but a real good cheap alternative that's a doddle to fit. :)

Nope,it just pastes.X2.Ive now got an opty 170.It didnt happen with my 146 either cabye fpaw 0545 EDIT 0540 not45

And chandler im using beta bios1 ocw.The 1.5volts is from doing the vcore mod which is a must. Also found on there forums.I have intention of using a resistor for a volt mod on the v core for 1.6+

Sounds good..

I'm torn between the Artic, Typhon and SL-120..
I'm running a SP-97 on my XP at the mo and thinks its awesome..

I'm not too bother about cost.. but wanna stay on air cos the prices of phase are insane and I just don't trust water in my PC.. :)

Was the BIOS flash a doddle too??

A v-core mod.. oh dear..

Just bought the board and I'm gonna have to mod it lol...
Although I did only have my £88 PC-65 for 30mins before I broke out the jigsaw lol..

Actually now that you ask.i had to search there forums a bit to figure out i had to download 1 & 2,change the name on 1 to 2. then update the bios with the bios software that got it working.

picture this...the 1.20 original asrock bios modded by ocw->ocw beta bios 1,Then using beta 2's name, swap it to flash 1 to 1.2 ha ha.

but yeah i hope it helps

I've just managed this on my 146:

That's a 146 CABNE 0544. The specs are as follows:

Biostar TForce 6100 939 mATX
Zalman CNPS7000B Cu cooler
1Gb Crucial Value PC3200
Powercolor X850XT
Antec Aria Case with next to no airflow:p

Seems to be the most I can manage Prime stable, althought I haven't tried very hard yet. I hit 2.6 on 1.55V and got a 34sec Pi time, but it wasn't Prime stable. I'll report back soon.

Damnit Carter I wish mine would do that :p . Not that it'd make any real-world difference to me, but 2.8 is awesome. I can't even get mine stable at 2.6 without pushing loads of volts through. It'll take a lot of tweaking I reckon. :(

Is that what you need to do to get ocw 1 to work then?

Glad I just went straight to beta 2 then! :D
