The Opteron Skt 939 Overclocking thread !!!!

Well gentlemen some will be horrified im back from my members market indiscretion, other less so... lol. :D

Got my CABGE Friday and the mobo this morning... it's all up and running now.

Bit problem is that I completely overlooked the fact that i'd need a PSU with a 24-pin ATX connector... i'm stuck with a 20-pin for a bit, though it is a powerful PSu and seems to be doing the job. Got my sights set on a 600w seasonic quad-rail jobby as soon as I can afford it.

These cabbages are fairly aptly named and I think they will need a fair bit of burning in. I am sitting tight at 2.5ghz @ 1.5v... to be honest I don't dare go too much higher without a bigger, beefier PSU. Booted into windows at 2.7ghz but needed more voltage... 1.65+ I imagine.

Another problem I have is that my RAM will not work in dual-channel in my mobo, I can only get 1GB to work in slots 1 & 2 in single channel... and even then I have to run it at 2T (CPC off). Bit peed off with that to be honest... must be hitting performance a bit.

Managed to get my BFG 7800GT to 480/1.17 and am getting 7'100 3DMARKS in 0'5 @ 2.5ghz which is probably about right. Games seem to be running a LOT smoother... and I guess they will further still when I get dual-channel running with (unfortunately) better RAM and a better PSU.

My Si-120 is a trooper though... barely budges from 32c despite 1.5v and a 700mhz overclock. Very chuffed with it. :)

lol cheers, I inadvertantly bumbed a thread in the MM, was nothing to do with the Oppy threads unlike some thought. :)

This RAM problem is driving me nuts though, I want to run dual-channel. Tried new BIOS etc etc... I may need to swap RAM. :(

Rich would an ASUS board give me the ability I need to hit 2.8?

I know dfi are the daddy but I can get a sli ASUS for the same price of the non sli DFi ultra D which is what most people have at extreme

ive had 2 asus boards, a7n8x deluxe & a8v deluxe and had nothing but problems with both hence i wont waste time or money on them again, to me asus is crap

:( Wish i had te money to upgrade :(

Need a new mobo, chip and even GFX to make it worth while!
Then a PSU etc grrrrr I quite fancy one of these if i had the cash!!

Same as me, got 144 on order missed the delivery date by a day gotta wait for 10 days until it arrives. Getting motherboard and psu at the same time, then i gotta wait another month before i can get a pci-x gfx card, so i'll be stuck with my trusty PCI matrox millenium for testing ;p

Hmm i'm at 2.7ghz @ 1.65v now... dont know how stable it is though, will have to test later. I have a feeling 2.8ghz will need 1.7v+ lol... I need me a CABNE. :)

@Richdog not Primed it yet as I am still burning it in,if you see my post firther up the thread I am trying it slightly differently this time.

It has run CPU Burn for 8 hours but I know Prime is more taxing on a system.

When I do run Prime I will use the new version SP2004.Thats ok isnt it?Never used Prime too much since my old Althlon days.

I guess I might try exploring the lower multipliers today and see how high the HTT can go all depends on the missus and what she wants to do :( .

Its certainly SuperPi stable at this speed/volts and I can play UT2004 no problem but I realise that Prime is the "test"

Can you run me a 1MB SuperPI @ 9*300 (2.7ghz) and give me the results please mate? I want to compare the score to my rig as im running single channel not dual due to memory probs and want to see what the hit is. :)

EDIT - I'm getting 34 secs @ 2.7ghz.

thats kinda low, I got 31 something IIRC

Think my lack of dual-channel is killing me... hmm is there any chance you can run the test in single channel and see what difference it makes? Would be interesting to know. :)
