The Opteron Skt 939 Overclocking thread !!!!

choices choices choices,

I'm not sure wether to buy a new block for socket 939 and a bit of tubing or go for the Big Typhoon, hmmmm....

Who wants to help me make the decision :P

you meant my Opty? yes, its an CABYE (now im reading it. its like "c ya bye") lol

axer: you can't go wrong with the TT, dirty cheap for its ability

Will water perform much better? I have most of the setup already, just need to replace the water block for a socket 939 compatible one and maybe some new tubing too :P

I dont know by how much but my temp underload is around 42 (Prime) or 38C (SuperPI32M), with water maybe be 5C lower
however, you already have most of the kits then I think water is a better choice :)

Hi Ken,

Can you give me some info on what memory timings, divider etc you are using please? Also, what voltage did you set in the bios, and how different is it reported in windows?

Cheers

my memory sux so it runs at divider ==> [email protected] 1T with 2.8v
by voltage, I guess you mean CPU voltage then?
it goes like this:
BIOS: 1.55 ===> 1.538 (CPU-Z)
1.575 ===> 1.548
1.6 ===> 1.584
1.675 ===> 1.648

Well my rig seems MUCH more stable now I plugged in a molex connector to the motherboard which I previously missed.

I'm priming right now (while browsing, lol) and it seems to be doing fine, though everything is juttering everywhere. I figure if it's stable with doing both at the same time all is good. :D

anyone else using a dfi ultra-d? if so what bios are you using?
i clocked my opty to 170fsb & is only 35c (full load) with all stock voltages BUT soon as i try to use a ram divider (166 or 180), the system reboots just after it gets into windows wether its 200fsb or 270fsb!!
not sure if its coz ive got the 310 bios or coz my rams in dual channel?

Not had long to play with mine, but it's Prime'd for an hour @ 2.5 and it seems ok. Voltage is 1.45 in the BIOS, although its reading slightly over that.

Richdog, how is your CAGBE getting on?

Aside from having to RMA my RAM to get something to work in dual-channel my CABGE suddenly seems to have taken great leaps in stability. Been at 2.6ghz playing games like a trooper and priming while browsing and not a hiccup. I'm going to shoot for 2.7ghz soon and i'll prime it while im drinking with my lady tonight.

I think plugging the extra molex connector into the motherboard worked wonders for stability. Can anyoneelse confirm that actual voltage on the DFi boards is 0.1 above what it's set to in the BIOS?

Also decided what PSU i'm going to get, might start a thread on it, it's amazing. :)

have u also tried plugging a floppy power connector next to the cpu, I bet u have not you mad fool, it may just help. :D

Anyone else in addition to whom?

On my board, the supplied voltage is 0.1v above BIOS when the system is under load. (OCZ Powerstream 520 if it makes a difference).

That CD is amazing, it's changed my BIOS flashing life as I know it. :D

Agreed, although I think I use a different one. I would recommend the 618 series BIOS however, as I believe the later ones are still in more of a testing stage. I don't really keep up to date with them, so I may be wrong.

In addition to my imaginary thread Bert, who sits on my forehead.

No but seriously someone told me in the other opteron thread hence why I said the words "anyone else". Was it worth you asking? :D

It's different BIOS for different types of RAM, TCCD, BH-5 etc. It's very much experimental with DFI BIOS. Pain in the rear to be honest. :)
