The Opteron Skt 939 Overclocking thread !!!!

I'm about to try my 144 CAB2E, i can get a 1.1Ghz overclock from stock speeds. Realistically i'm hoping for 900Mhz from stock with the 144.

Edit: Into windows and running SuperPi at 9x310 = 2794Mhz at 1.5v.

Hi all......new to the forum and would like some advice off all you nice people :)

I have just ordered 2 Opteron 144 CPU's for my 2 systems and would like to know the best possible way to overclock them in each of the PC's I have.

System 1:
Epox 9NDA3+ mobo(SKT939)
ATI X800XT AGP Gfx
1024MB(2*512MB Matched) Corsair XMS C2PT Ram
Magna 600W PSU(Think this could be the weak link)
Thermaltake LanFire Case(5 fans-80,90&120mm)
Zalman CNPS7000 AlCu CPU Flower Cooler

System 2:
Epox 9NPA+ Ultra mobo(SKT939)
ATI X800XL PCie Gfx
1024MB(2*512MB Matched) Corsair XMS C2PT Ram
Tagan TG480-U01 480W PSU
Thermaltake Shark Case(2 fans -120mm)
Zalman CNPS7000 AlCu CPU Flower Cooler

Hoe you guys and gals can give me some good advice on what I can do with these 2 setups.

Thanks in advance

Demon

by the look of it youre looking for overclocking advice, try searching some forums, theres a lot of good guides to overclocking out there

I just want to know if the 2 systems I have posted up will be OK to run and overclock the Opteron 144's I have ordered or if any of the hardware in the systems will not be upto scratch.

As far as overclocking is concerned I have dabbled with it before on my old 2500+Barton and my current A64 3200+Winchester.

So like I said above all I want to know is if the systems will be OK to push the Opty's.

System 2 np should do well i think as for system 1 dont know tba as its not the ultra board but should still overclock but prob not as much but as tatts says read the forums m8 ;)

I have the same CPU as you, and Priming 2.8GHz @ 1.5v fails prime after about 2 hours, but it generally very stable. Currently "burning in" 2.5GHz @ 1.3v (putting some theories to test) to see if I can either lower my vcore a bit, or get a few more MHz.

Thought I should mention it's currently 3 hours SNM stable 2.5GHz 1.3v which amazes me. Apparently peoples systems that were 24 hours Prime stable failed SNM after just 3 minutes.

Identical to mine, heres some of my results. (144)

Max clock: 2.9Ghz 9x320, stable with SuperPi but not with OCCT.
Stable with OCCT 30min stability test at 2.83Ghz 9x315.
Currently 1:30 into the OCCT torture test - i plan on giving it another 30mins before i switch it off to goto bed.

Those results are all at 1.5v, temps havent gone above 40 degrees load and idle it manages to stay around 27 degrees!! Bare in mind i have an XP-120 and a 125CFM YS-Tech (45dbA) and its not in a case its built flat on my desk. I think its fair to say that temps around 35-40 idle and 48-52 load when the fan is slowed down and the system is in a case.

This CPU is performing rather well, 1Ghz overclock from stock which isnt quite as good as the 1.1Ghz overclock from the 146. I plan on running a few more stability tests on the 146 too before i decide its fully stable at 3.1Ghz.

Also matt1, whats SNM?

...

SNM (also called S&M) is just an app to stress out your CPU and report on mis-calculations. Apparently it's more effective than Prime for detecting errors, and also causes the CPU to heat up more.

I've never seen anything heat up a CPU more than SNM, but I've passed SNM when Prime fails before too

Ha, for real? We do live in a bizzare world now don't we. Was this an isolated case?

EDIT

Taster of my SNM, will leave it overnight.

Would you say theyre stable enough at 2.9? Because if i can stay in windows and play bf2 for more than ten mins im buying one.

Hve you tried giving it 1.6v and seeing how stable it is then?

I've not given mine more than 1.5v, but it boots into windows at 2.9 with 1.5v no problems.

@Bossman: What are the last 4 numbers on the third line on your heatspreader?

well mine seems to be holding out quite good, the cab2e that is, has been sitting at 2.9Ghz on stock cooler. 13hrs Prime (GO2004) stable and 23mins S&M stable, will leave it cooking overnight.

i was at 2.8Ghz last night and did the cooking all night which i think has really helped.
