The Opteron Skt 939 Overclocking thread !!!!

what ram do you have, and ram dividers mean that the ram runs slower than the HTT basically (which means that your ram doesn't hold back the overclock), but if possible don't use them.

i'm tempted to sell my CAB2E and try a 146, as the 144 hits 2.9, i'm not sure the 100Mhz is worth the hassle..

Damn it I want 3Ghz :p lol I think I would see more improvement from better memory tho.

What kind of memory bandwidth as those of you with good RAM getting in Sandra?

ROFL!

I'm not going to buy more, i'm acctually really happy with the overall peformance.
For £300 I have an epox 9NPA+, a 144 (+arctic freezer), and a GTO2
@
FX-57 (well FX58 I guess) and 850XT speeds I call the bloody good value!

Hmm something is really wrong here...

My rig fails OCCT after 2 mins yet is 100% heavy gaming stable, it runs Dawn of War with the Half-scale mod (basically 2x units on screen) for hours... and that is a REAL torture test for your CPU... it grinds your system to a halt, less than 12 fps sometimes.

Vcore is at 1.55 + 104%
LDT at 1.3v
Chipset at 1.6v

Now temps are pretty damn high on this thing (mid 50's under load reported, which seems about right for 3ghz, 1.6v on air) but I have a feeling it may be the PSU, as I haven't received my PCP&C yet to give it 100% stable juice.

We'll see in a few days I gues... but until then i'm not fussed. :)

pfft your lucky, i cant boot int windows at 2.5ghz @ 1.6v!! pls pls pls help. Its probly something really obvious. Ive got a 144 CAB2E, epox 9npa+ sli with new bios and giel pc4400 ultra-x 1gb

id be VERY greatfull if ppl could tell me their ful bios settings. ie

cpu + stepping
mobo
cpu freq
cpu multi
HTT freq
ram freq
ram timings

i know its a lot of hastle but im a man on the edge! lol

Post your full specs, can't be arsed to trawl back through the pages trying to find them... even better put them in your sig.

Put:

CPU voltage to 1.55
LDT voltage to 1.3v
Chipset voltage to 1.6v
RAM voltage to 2.9v
Use a RAM divider to be sure too... set it to 150 or 166mhz memory speed.

AND MAKE SURE LDT MULTIPLIER IS AT 3x! If it's any higher you won't be stable at higher HTT.

Start at 9x280 HTT and work up from there in 10mhz incrememnts.

Is it worth buying one of the Opterons from the next batch that are due in within the next few days as if it is I'll sell my Venice before I start to attempt to overclock that and I'll go straight for the Opteron if recommended.

I guess the real question is what are the recent batches going to be like compared to the earlier ones.

Not being psychic we don't really know, but I would get a 146 for a better chance of getting a CABYE 0540.

Just got my Opteron 144 and the stepping is.....................

CABNE 0540BPMW

Is this a good one or not???

By the way it came from Overclockers.

Not too good i'm afraid... bit like a CABGE.

Demon until you start overclocking m8 you will never know its a bit of a lottery with these chips tba some do good some dont

done. im in windows now at 2.3 yay, shame everyone else gets in at 2.9!! :(

If you want help, i'm happy to. unfortunatly i'm not home now till next week sometime.

First of all use epox winfish and flash to the latest bios.
Try setting the memory to 100MHz timings as loose as you can go ie 3 8 16 8 (there are losts of setting and you will have to fiddle). cpu to 1.55v 9x multi 300HTT bus. HT multi to 3x (its a shame you can not add more voltage to this on the epox). Chipset to 1.6v memory to 2.8 volts.
Disable all of the legacy ports in the bios. disable hdd smart check spread spectrum is disabled.

umm, if I think of anything else I will add it! let me know how you get on.

Anyone want to show me some sanda memory scores :p can not be bothered to look back!

i did a few benchmarks for some friends that didn't believe my opteron clocks! see linky, it's also got some si sandra cpu scores if that's what you are after? p.s. note the reference cpu below (faster than an fx57 yey!!) oh and i need to retest with my new memory!

linky

very nice teggs :) essp the css benchies.

What I was after memory wise is there is a memory benchmark in sandra, as my ram is running really slow 163 Mhz (about) ddr I was wondering how it compares to people with good ram! The thing is I managed to get the timing really tight 2 2 2 2 which made a huge difference, so I think this may have compensated for the slow memory clock.
