The Opteron Skt 939 Overclocking thread !!!!

So your saying in his case 270fsb 1:1 with the ram running at slightly slack timings would be out performed with the ram on a divider running 200 and tight timings? I always found the reverse when benching my system. if I ran such hi ht it would always seem to out do low latencies after the 250 mark.

cheers
3-3-3-7 is not "slightly slack"

running at 2-2-2-5 would be (theoretically) 50% faster but 200 is only 35% slower than 270.

hi,

got a 146 with the following running at 280x10 default volts, tried htt at 2 and 3, ocwbeta2 bios tried mem at 100 and 133, asrock dual sata mobo so 1.45v is max without vcore mod, but even at that it wont hit 300, any ideas what i can do, or might be holding me up ?, memory are 3 sticks of 3200x512 and 1 stick of 256 pc3200, running at 7/3/3/2, also tried at auto.

Just got my Opteron 146 this morning and having a play around with it.
Stepping is CAYBE 0540 FPMW.
Here's how it's looking so far.....

Oliver, I have ballistix on an ultra D and they wont even work with the 10/03 bios , can you possibly do a link to that beta bios for me?

Currently running 1Gb of Giel value and 1Gb of Corsair 4400, hoping I will get better performance from a Corsair / Cruciall Ballistix match

Dr steve what are your temps? and what cooling have you got?

what are the temps of these optys at 3ghz please?

EDIT: 35c is that right? :)

Yep. It's sitting about 35C idle according to Core Centre @3.1GHz. I'm not sure just how reliable that is cos the NEO2 is a bit odd when it comes to temperature reporting. Got up to 49C under load during OCCT but was totally stable. That's on water cooling - Eheim 1250, DD TDX, 120.2 rad.

I thought these boards didnt like having 4 sticks of ram and overclocking?

Here's the thread I got it from: http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread.php?t=22997

Going to try some others tonight I think.

My ballistix worked fine with the stock bios. Not sure what it was though.

Just got home to find my Opteron 146 waiting for me. :D

Stepping is CABYE 0540 FPBW. :D :D

I have just installed it but am going to be cautious with voltage as I did not do a good job with removing thermal paste from heatsink so the new Akasa thermal interface pads might not 'bond' too well. I am limiting myself to 1.5v and 45 degrees. I will let you know how I get on. Motherboard is Epox 9NDA3+ and the memory is some pretty ordinary OCZ PC3200. I have had problems running the memory at high HTT even with a divider so I will have to cripple the memory with the 100 divider (which does not upset the memory  ) to get do decent HTTs. My Ballistix should arrive tomorrow so it is only a short term problem.

I'll let you know how I get on and will probably need some help along the way. So thanks in advance.

Not a great start. Needed 1.5 to get prime stable at 2600. Would run super Pi happily enough at 1.45 at this speed but would fail prime almost immediately.

I will burn in at 1.5v and see how things go.

Any pointers welcome.

Thanks

id reseat the block or remove the ihs if i was you, 14C rise is a lot imo

ok im trying to keep track of all this, seems a bit crazy to me  first off the price. a few months ago i got myself a amd64 4000+ but now your telling me i can pay £99 for a chip thats better, whats the catch.

Heres my rig what u recon i could o/c to ??

2gig Corsair DDR XMS4400
Epox EP-9NPA+ SLi
and watercooled :D

what u recon i could get? is it worth me upgrading?

Still no joy getting stability over 2600. Voltage currently 1.625v in Bios but showing 1.55 in CPU-z and Epox monitoring utiliy. Is this discrepancy in voltage readings normal? is it telling me anything?

Have i got the worst CABYE 146 on record or am I doing something wrong.

Current settings.

HTT 260
HTT multi 3x
Memory completely taken out the equation on 100 divider.

Any suggestions for pushing on up to 280?

dont forget some processors dont like akward multipliers, try 133/200 or 120/200
also what are your temps?

mine were horendous before i removed the shim.

Load temp is 47. Unfortunately I don't have that many options on the divider front. I have tried all the available one but to no avail. The chip just won't go above 2.6.

Well after trying the Sapphire Pure Innovation board and having no success, I have gone back to the DFI NF4 Ultra-D which thankfully I'd not sold.

With my 146 CABYE I'm doing a steady 3Ghz with 300HTT x 10. The ram is 1:1 at 300HTT with timings of 2.5,4,4,8 and the LDT Multi is at 3x. The cpu voltage is 1.55v in the bios which is reported as 1.5v in the windows monitor, and ram is at 2.8v.

So far it's stable in 1Mb super pi and also any of the 3dMark series. Temps at load not going over 38 / 39 deg c.

Well impressed indeed :D I'm sure I can get higher on the core speed, just not had time to test yet, but I think 3.1Ghz should be accessable.
