The Opteron Skt 939 Overclocking thread !!!!

I think your problem with the memory is that the chips are rather different.

The Corsair is TCCD, I used to have a pair of these myself, and they like 2.7v. I found that any lower or any higher would cause instability.

Ballistix typically likes slightly higher volts, around 2.8v - 2.9v. So, you're not able to get a voltage that satisfies the two sets.

yeah mine says venus, it could be that the new 146s are?
or that i switched over to cpu-z 1.31 and thats why it shows as venus?

i had the 144 before and im sure i dont remember any reference to venus.

god knows.

yes mine reports Venus core as well, not sure whether this is a different varient on the SD core - as both cpu's have 1mb cache, or wehter its an identical core, but due to it being anopteron its been changed only in this minor way to show Venus?

Thank you Kesnel, but shouldnt my geil ( even at slower fsb etc) work with one of the other pairs? I cant get this set to work with either

frustrating becasue I KNOW i have a decent cpu here, 2.8Ghz @1.52v (9 multi) and I think with a good cooler, I could go further.

Just primed mine for 2 and a half hours at 3Ghz, no errors at all. Getting 32Mb Super Pi complete in 25 mins 46 seconds. Thats all with 1.55v on the cpu, and 2.8v on the ram - 1:1 with the 300Htt and 2.5,4,4,8 timings 1T.

Got my 148 Opteron yesterday. It's a CABYE0536. Shows as a VENUS core too. Left it Priming at home at 2.75ghz on stock volts. Very happy with it so far. Hopefully it'll be good for 3ghz in due course.

had to change my bios to 623-3 to get the option, got 2Gb ram working now, unfortnately due to 1Gb being geil, I have had to turn down my cpu ( already at lowest dram setting - 100 i think) as otherwise I was getting BSOD's (2.7Ghz with 9 multi)
