The Opteron Skt 939 Overclocking thread !!!!

1st test of the 146 CABYE 0542FPMW batch 0100 - 3ghz 1.55V

To give me an idea of stability, was that OCCT stable? What's the lowest voltage it would boot into windows at 3GHz? Any info on this would be highly appreciated tatts. :)

nope, that was just one of my quick tests to see if it would do 3ghz, give me 40mins to swap cpus and run occt & ill post a SS for you and the volts ;)

Cheers dude :D:D:D

Anyone heard of this rumour regarding AMD stopping production of the Socket 939 Opteron's because it's killing the sale of the other socket 939 chips (i.e. Venice). So Opteron is going purely socket 940. This might be complete rubbish, but sure is an interesting concept.

what speed & V you booting with? think somebody needs more volts :P

CPU - 1.5V x 104% (so approx 1.56V)
HTT - 1.30V
Chip - 1.70V (don't wanna go higher than this cos the its running pretty toasty).

10 x 300, LDT at 3x, RAM timings all conservative. Like I said it completed 3+ loops of memtest fine over about 2 hours.

Cheers,

ive been told by 2 etailers they wont be getting anymore opterons, theres a lot of rumours & sadly, i think its true :(

has for my 0542, this is a joke now!!
10x298 1.6V passes occt np, 10x300 fails occt & sp2004 (cpu & ram) within 2 minutes with 1.67V & tried all the ram dividers, raised ldt & chipset V
the 0540fpbw does 10x310 stable 1.55V but fails both the same @ 10x311 1.65V.
now theres something very weird going on here, ive benched the 0540 (01, 03 & 05) and played COD2 for 3 hours np @ 10x320 1.6V so why are they failing

Hi,
I'm really interested in buying one of these chips, and that news is worrying. Do you think I should take the plunge and pre-order an Opteron from somewhere even if I'm not guaranteed the best batch?

Advice would be much appreciated, thanks.

From what you tell me of those CABYE 0542s tatts it's a hit and miss situation, thanks for the info, looks like I'll be passing on that chip. Quite curious to tryout the dual core Opteron, unsure if any particular steppings are good (I've read the 0530s are good, but they will surely be out of circulation).

i dont know tbh with you mate, im having probs with both of mine so cant say really and think im the only to try clocking a 0542?
gonna do a lot of testing tomorrow so will post back if i cure it ;)

suman, i would drop back to 10x290 or use a bigger ram divider and see if it helps

Strange:

10 x 280, 100 divider -> gets into windows
10 x 280, 133 (or any other higher divider) boot hang! (not even BSOD like at 10 x 300)

Duff memory controller maybe :( or have I still not set up my memory settings properly? But then it's strange that I can boot into memtest and it runs fine with no errors for 2 hours. I am still unsure if I have set the bottom lot correctly, so anyone else with an Opty an 2Gb Corsair please email me!

Cheers,

Suman

some advice please :)

I have a opty 170, I've lowered the memory to the lowest speed possible whilst I try to find its highest speed, I can get it to 2.6 (see screenshot) and thats stable but am unsure about the load temps, do you think they are ok ?

I've also tried to get to 2.7 @ 1.5 volts but it reboots at the windows screen,do you think I should I try to put more through it? I am only using air cooling.

I'm using , DFI NF4 Ultra D with 704-2bta bios, and Artic Freezer 64 Pro HSF, 2gb of G.Skill HZ

Thanks

So AMD are no longer going to make opterons?

I don't believe that for a minute.

Why would they?
I would have thought if that were true it would only apply to the socket 939 versions. The socket 940 opterons are still going to be made and used in servers, can't see that changing.

The rumour is not that they're not going to be making more Opterons, merely not giving any stock to retailers.

The "word in the street" is that AMD are annoyed that all these chips are being snapped up by overclockers and not making it onto the server market. Apparently they're planning to distribute the chips to OEMs only to ensure that they're used for the purpose for which they were intended.
