The Opteron Skt 939 Overclocking thread !!!!

been testin the 0542fpmw and looks like theyve gone downhill abit, 2.9ghz 1.55V stable and 10x298 will pass occt 1.6V but not sp2004 so am guessing 1.65-1.7V for 3ghz which isnt good :(
just gonna try this cab2e and hope its more like my 0540fpbw ;)

My 0540FBPW sat quite happy at 3GHZ and 1.5v even managed 3.1GHZ but since the central heating went on i wound it down to 2.85GHZ 1.45v.

Freezer64 doesn't seem to be able to keep this as cool as it did my 3800Venice.

Just emailed an online retailer about their stock of 146s as they supplied some rather inaccurate info, i.e. calling it socket939 but supplying the socket 940 AMD reference number and got the following reply.

They are socket 939. We have an advantage over most suppliers though, we are actually getting some in next week. Only for people who are building genuine bona fide servers, which of course is what you are doing isn't it.

Touchy... maybe the rumours are true after all :eek:

Very touchy indeed! I've not seen a retailer ever be that curt. Maybe they're getting a little frustrated with people ringing up about steppings every half hour.

I'm surprised that retailers are still getting them if they're only intended for server use because, as has been said, there's no real way to enforce it. It would surely make much more sense to distribute them soley to OEMs if that's what AMD wanted the chips to be used for. :confused:

OK Got my 146 CABYE 0540 running @ 2700 (270x10), on 1.5 volts.

ON

A8V Delxue
1gb Geil value ram at 2.5-3-3-8 @ 180
PSU = Aerocool turbine 550.

Stable in prime 95 for 10 hours.

Though i cannot seem to get my fsb up without prime not completing after a few mins. I have had my volts up to 1.550 in BIOS though hasnt made much of a difference. And BIOS fsb will not go higher than 300fsb.

What do you think is the main think holding me back? mobo? ram?

edit: temps are 30 - 32 idle and high 30's load
