is it me a that score is a little low consider the Opty is at 3Ghz and GTX@490/1300? it should be well over 9k, isnt it?

Not well over 9k, maybe 9k or just over. Its hard to get a 7800gtx over 9k just by clocking it, you need a few tweaks etc.

His score looks a little low but ok imo. The opty at 3ghz isnt making much diff anyway. he'd get the same score if it was at 2.7ghz

Yeah I've not optimised all the settings for 3DMark so think of it as a raw score, through tweaks I'm sure I could rack up a few hundred points more.

Regarding the effect of an Opteron, it only gained me around 100 points going from a venice @ 2.7 to an opteron @ 3.0 so it doesn't appear to be CPU bottlenecked (to a noticeable degree).

May I'll try and optimise 3DMark and get a higher score, at home so I'll wait til I return to university (where my PC is).

Just wandering if maybe when some people overclock the GTX and run 3dmark05, the cards are actually quitelly throttling back. Hence the lower scores.
As iv seen people with 500/1300 GTXs and a overclocked opteron aroudn the 2.9 - 3ghz marks reaching over 9k in 3dmar05. With default settings (which I hope is what everyone runs at, otherwise comparing scores is pointless).

A small update on my CABNE 0530APMW 146. I recently put it in my DFI Ultra-D and for some reason there is no longer a problem with the cold bug.

My last board was fine with my 3700 under the Mach II, but not my Opteron, very strange I think.

Anyway, I was able to do some quick testing today and it seemed alright at 3.4Ghz, with memory able to run at decent speeds this time. I think with some more tweaking it could hit 3.5Ghz (that's my target anyway). However results wont' be up until next week as I'm not at home until then.

Could anyone with OCCT post the graph of their 5volt and 3 volt lines so i can have a look i think my psu is on it,s way out as mine are fluctuating like made usually rock solid stable i have a OCZ 470watt psu,cheers..

most peoples fluctuate like yours but id worry because its dropping below blue lines (under 3.3 & 5)

I pumped up my Opty to 2.8 ghz now and all is fine so far.
CPU temps under load around 44c, idle at 36c.



I am happy leaving it as it is now (meets all my requirements) and feel safe knowing I have plenty of headroom in the temperature department for when my room gets hot...

Dude you rails are solid. the 5v is not going below 4.96 which is pretty good tbh.

Cheers for your input welshton, the reason i have been worried about my voltage rails is my p.c which is usually rock solid at 3GHZ is beginning to become unstable, i have just done two OCCT benchmarks for example and one failed and the other passed at exactly the same settings no changes to ram cpu voltage or anything else!!..Also when i boot my p.c up in the morning it never boots first time, i have to press the start button at least twice before it will boot up properly..

Sorry folks being lazy as i'm sure this has been asked already (I did do a quick search honest) Would it be worth me swapping out my SD 3700+ for one of these fancy Opty Chips? Haven't had a chance to play about with my SD on my DFI board but on my Epox I could get about 2800GHZ. Is the design of the chip better than the SD??

That is pretty good for a SD afaik, that would be a low end opteron overclock, best opteron would be 300Mhz faster architechturally they are the same, clock for clock same. My opinion its not worth it.

check you're mobo manual it should tell you which slots to put it in to run dual channel.

What BIOS is best for my ASUS A8N-SLi Deluxe for the opty? thanks

No, the CPU is swappable without any worries. Just make sure you update to the latest BIOS released for your board before you take the 3500+ out.
