*** The OS X Lion Thread ***

Ummm...well i couldn't resist it really...heard that WoW performance was better in lion so clicked the buy button.

Only problems i'm having so far are;

Logged in user name in top right corner (want to hide)
I am using an external monitor and when i open the laptop up to let it breath better both monitors come on (is nice that it does this but want the monitor to stay off)
The light grey frames...like the program is in the background. Don't like
The colour balance seems wrong too. Everything is too bright! :o

Any way to solve these problems!?

Things I like:

- Thumb and 3 fingers inwards to access launchpad...nice! :D
- Going forwards and backwards between pages just looks so good!
- Safari is blistering fast!
- Minimising and maximising windows has changed - it's now faster

Have to say, its going to take me a while to get used to this new scrolling, but it does make sense since this is how we scroll on the iPhone and iPad.

Does anyone know what the additions are in iTunes? I can only see 2 things so far:

1.The full screen button addition
2. The volume switch has changed AGAIN! They love changing it!:o

Anyone else having trouble burning their lion to disc?

I find the installESD.dmg and option click to desktop but when i try to burn it says the image is corrupt? Anything i'm doing wrong?

Download it again? Mine worked fine first time, could well be a screwed image?

I've installed fine on my laptop so bit confused as to why the DMG may be corrupt?

This is the icon i have;

This whole mission control thing is backward in my honest opinion. Much the flow of using expose and spaces

Interesting new info regarding Time Machine

New tidbits regarding OS X Lion are rolling in left and right! Apparently, Apple has made some notable changes to Time Machine with OS X Lion. For instance, when you are away from your Time Machine drive or Time Capsule for a while, Time Machine now caches local backups of documents and changes to your hard drive, and then transfers them to the Time Machine when it can be found.

It appears that Time Machine can now keep up to a week of local backups right on your hard drive to sync later. Further, Time Machine has introduced a new ability to “lock” documents in Lion after a set period, so that Lion’s auto-save capability doesn’t accidentally save over top of documents that you don’t want to change.

These local backups won’t do much for you if your hard drive fails while you are away from your Time Machine backup, but it may very well save you from accidentally deleting a file or two while you’re on a business trip. Essentially, its main usefulness is preventing things you might accidentally do to your files while away from your backup.

Kudos, Apple! A solid improvement on something that already worked well!

I'm seriously thinking about switching back to SL. I really hate Mission Control - I miss being able to easily drag and drop windows between Spaces and also not being able to do proper Exposé (show all open apps, just not the app on top).

It feels like they've tried to mimic going horizontally back and forth between the screens on an iPhone, when what I want is full control of my desktop PC...

I'm not having these problems?

I cannot install the new iTunes, seems like a few people are having the problem on the Apple forums.

I'm utterly penniless so this will have to wait for the moment. Weighing up an upgrade to a SB 11" MBA in the Autumn anyway so i'm considering just waiting and getting Lion then.

OK... For example. When I hit Exposé I get this - now it looks like I've only got Safari open:

However, when I go into cruddy Mission Control I can see all the apps I really have open:

In other words, now I have to navigate away from the desktop I'm on to see everything at once.

That to me is going to be a massive productivity killer.

I intelligently clicked buy and found out after I could have gotten it for free. Oh well, 7 hours to go :(

Ditto same here is that how Expose is meant to work seems pretty pointless to me

Although I am liking everything else about it.

Could anyone point me in the direction to sort out an issue i'm having with my monitors?

I use an external monitor and don't use the macbook monitor at all. When the MacBook Pro heats up i open it up and let it cool down. When i do this in Lion the monitor of the macbook pro comes on and then jumbles about all my windows and is a general annoyance. Anyway to stop this? Just want to use the external monitor.

Also, is there a way to set spaces to individual applications like in the old spaces. Want that back.
