****The Playstation 3 Slim Thread****

It makes pretty much zero difference. I can't believe that you think having no power brick is such a major perk.

I disagree. There's not much space behind my TV and I would struggle if this unit had an external brick - especially if it was the size of the 360 one. I also like to completely power down my PS3 / PSU using the rear switch - I wouldnt be able to do this with an external brick as I cant reach the sockets on the wall behind the TV.

I also dont see where it says that this is a major perk either

Didn't say 'major perk' i only said it was nicer/more convenient! It's a matter of opinion that i've backed up with an explanation.

Sorry to have upset you! :p :D

Very mature with the rolleyes.

It would but then it would also have the additional power brick in tow too.

When compared to the 360 i find the PS3 a lot nicer to move/transport due to it being all one item.

Quite honestly it won't effect me unless my beloved 40gb dies. :D

Surely though thats a backward step for Sony? Having a "power brick" is one of the reasons why quite a few people don't like the 360 and like PS3. I think Sony have done a very good job of packing everything into the current PS3, and im all for slimming it down if possible, but those pictures are nothing to go by, which im quite surprised by the OP because he trying to turn pictures of something that resembles a PS3 into real evidence.

If its real then great! Ill gladly put my hands up and say i was wrong. But i don't like the way the OP has tried to make this out to be the real thing by giving "evidence" pictures. Seems more like a Magick style post to me.

Wasn't talking about using a bag specifically (although i'd get a bigger bag if you're having problems! ;)) it was more about the convenience of having an 'all in one' unit.

Much nicer! :)

It takes an awful lot more than that to upset me :)

if this was accompanied by a £100 decrease in price as well as being in either the original piano black (or just not as crap as the one shown here) then i may just possibly buy one, it's the only thing that'd get me to that's for sure :p

Have to say I feel the same way. It's still a bit too much for me, and with no GT5 yet I have little reason to invest.

well, there aren't really any exclusive games on there that interest me and i think while the online service is free it's still **** so the only reason i'd be buying a PS3 is for the bluray and the odd one or two future exclussives i may possibly be interested in, and for that the current price tag just isn't worth it.

The plastic does look cheap but this is a very early prototype!

When we prototype new designs at work we often use a process called Rapid Prototyping which allows you to quickly and relatively cheaply produce plastic cases to see how things fit together and how easy they are to build

The production units are finished in much higher quality plastic or (more usually) aluminium

This could be real. I expect Sony to release a slim PS3 at some point as they have done this for the PS1 and the PS2

I like the idea and I do like the shape (although I can imagine the material will be updated possibly on launch).

I live at home at the moment and my Dad has a PS3 so when I move out I will grab one of these!

What do you find so bad about it? It doesn't quite offer as much as Live but it's not that far off at all. Cross-game chat is in fact the only thing I require from Live. The two really aren't worlds apart like they use to be now there is cross-game messaging and in-game XMB.

having played both CoD4 on PS3 and 360 (so a direct comparison) i found i encountered more lag, that's really it for the software/networking side. hardware wise i found the headset i used to be awful and the voice communications online seem to have far less clarity overall (i'm assuming this is due to poor quality headsets) then there is the fact that very few people i know have a PS3 making the PS3 gaming experience lonely at best.

aside from that the free browser is good, but i want a games console, and if it's more laggy and harder to communicate over then i'd go for the alternative every time, as i say, as a package, overall, XBL is better.

Obviously differs then as I'd say I have definitely encountered more lag on Live as a lot of the main PS games have dedicated servers. I agree on the headset quality it use to be terrible but with the official headset out now it has definitely picked up a lot. Own'd both consoles from the start pretty much so directly comparing Live use to be miles better but its generally pretty hard to notice much difference now apart from the P2P on Live and lack of party chat on PSN.

again, i can only speak from my experiences but the games my friend has seem to be plagued by jitters and just in general being dropped from servers.

however sony are asking people to buy these better headsets where as with the 360 you get a perfectly usable and clear sounding headset and mic

this wouldn't bother me, i only know one friend with only a PS3 and only one more who has a PS3 and a 360 (and he almost exclusively plays on XBL) ergo don't need the above :p

Surely thats more to do with your friends than the console?

Most of my mates got a PS3 on my reccomendation and then when I got a 360, I felt the same as you did and sold it in the end.
