Even so. Extra heat, power consumption, not 200% performance, noise.

I'd wait till next gen ATI's if you're looking for faster than single 480 performance.
nothing will give me the same power for £300 however, ahh its a tough one. I have also been waiting for a whole new build for 8 months, its never a good time it seems as there is always something new right around the corner.

Well I'm in a different quandry. Have a 480 8GB, with 1920x1200 screen.
Looking at a upgrade would be a 1440 screen, and apparently the 480 may not be powerful enough for this (yours) res.

So one option is to go to 1080p for yourself to lessen requirement for higher end GPU or GPU's to get acceptable fps, make do with one 480 4GB or 8GB.

so the two rx 480s in crossfire I have coming should be okay for 1440p :)

thanks, just seen that.

I dont know, people say crossfire and SLI is crap but I think people are saying this based on previous graphics cards and history with AMD and Nvidia.

The RX 480s in crossfire are meant to be a great budget option for higher resolution gaming like 1440 and 4k gaming, especially when you can pick a 4gb version for £150 or 8gb around £180.

Theres plenty of reviews on frame rates and how great they are - nearly gtx 1080, but I need reviews like does it crash games, frame skipping, technical problems... etc

its difficult and i'm thinking to cancel my order and wait until April...but ffs waited for Ryzen for 6 months and now I gotta keep waiting... but hey it will allow the AM4 bios updates to mature and get better.

4gb here and no issues @ 1440p

Cancelled my order for ryzen and rx 480s in crossfire. I'm going to let some of the ryzen issues get sorted and then I'll see what rx 580 offers or vega, and I'll just get a single gpu.

Good call.

With issue of slow memory, you don't know if this is a hardware or software problem. If it's hardware, would a software patch be a work around? What about updated microcode for Windows to make use of CPU (ie CPU patches)

I'd wait a generation until Ryzen bugs are ironed out, fully sorted, Windows CPU microcode updates, and then re-benchmarked and then compare against competition.

Those ryan CPU's aren't cheap either, so I don't know what the hype is all about.

Ok guys, I'm in.

But... I'm reserving judgement at the moment till I get a proper chance to tinker with it, probably over the weekend sometime. Quick test last night and it would seem the rumours are true it can be a tad noisy. Had a couple of quick games of Overwatch and the fans were certainly giving it a good spin whilst hovering between 60°C & 70°C. Will need to look more into the 0db and wattman settings to see what can be done.

Also I noticed that it seemed to have a tiny stutter to itself everytime it hit 70°C, like just a small lag spike or something.

Will see how it goes over the weekend.

To get on the Roll of Honour all you have to do is post a pic with your user name on it of your RX 480.

Ive got a 295x2 which i love except when the game doesn't support crossfire(forza horizon3 being the one i noticed), would a 480 be a good trade between faster than half my card(290x)? and fast enough on its own to run most games at full settings @1080? id even consider a second 480 down the line for crossfire again ( like i said i dont mind crossfire its just when they dont allow it im struggling to get 60fps)
My instinct says wait for vega for price drops if nothing else, im certainly not going to drop £600+ for a 1080ti as much as id like one.

At 1080p the 8gb 480 will own pretty much anything.
Mines never skipped a beat, there's no need to spend more on a card for 1080p gaming.

As for when to buy, well that's the never ending question.. All you can do is buy something that meets your requirements at the right price at the given time, that said, unless you plan on gaming at 4k or something crazy, then the 480 will be more than fine, it puts in a respectable performance at 1440p, never mind 1080p.
