You sure about needing to be able to drive to join? I was told it would be useful, but if you couldn't it wouldn't disqualify you. Maybe it varies from force to force.

Have just sent my application to join the Specials, I just cant afford the pay cut to join the regular Police force, which is something I should have done 10 years ago.

It may differ for different forces, but I doubt it. I can assure you that for West Yorks at least you do not require a driving license

Don't need one for the PSNI either - I emailed asking them last week.

Now the force I had applied for is **** out of money so thats that.


Was going to stick another application in elsewhere, but I am tempted to wait til I have gone through the mill of university. Life experience and all that.

Wasn't Surrey Police was it? They are/were having an absolute nightmare in terms of funding and recruitment.

Is there an up to date list of where is in need of applications? I am quite keen on joining in the future but am told that most police forces are full if you are a white male.

There is on the Policecouldyou site, but unfortunately it doesn't look like any forces are recruiting regular officers at the moment - http://www.policecouldyou.co.uk/officers/po_vacancies.php.

Keep checking force websites for recruitment information.

They go through periods of no recruitment but they do recruit again when natural wastage kicks in and numbers need replenishing.

Unfortunately, it is a fact thet many forces are facing budgetary restraints in the current climate. There is plenty of money for military ops and bank bail outs but not frontline policing.

I don't know for sure but I know of a cop who kickboxes and I believes still at a competitive level.
