The Predator (2018)

Either they've edited the movie, taken out the kids, and made it more adult, or they are fooling us with the trailer and it's still being aimed at the lunchbox and merch markets.

Shane Black so annoying kid is still going to be there, cracking jokes and doing something to accidentally save the day last minute.

Why didn't we get that gleefully 80s/90s action film trailer to start with. Would have been a lot less moaning. God knows what films actually coming.

to be fair i was telling someone young at work how good the original predator is but they hadn't seen it. So, off to youtube to watch the trailer - and wow it is garbage, it made the film look terrible.

^ And was beyond spoilerific! Showed half the deaths and the bloomin' Predator!

As for this new one... Gotta say that I'm well up for it after the last trailer.
Sure, there are things that I don't like, but I think we have to move on from expecting anything to top the original. It's just not gonna happen.

This looks like it suffers from the same things a lot of modern films do, like trying too hard to be funny and having to have some weird new version of the monster, but there are elements that I think look really good. Mostly visual stuff and a good dollop of proper violence/gore, but hey...

Shame it's rated 15. Also it's not gona be hardcore like the first and maybe 2nd one just a typical cycle of a light horror that most sci fi films do like most modern alien and predator films are. So do you guys think it's because there's more push for being PC and trying too hard to get women in, that stops films being like the good old days.

I think it's more the case that today's 15 rating is like an 18 was back in the day.
Just look at what they can get away with in the trailer.

What we've seen so far (and even AvP2) is gorier than the OG Predator.

Still, it was thought to be a r18 tho which would have let them get more creative I reckon. But yes, its been that way for years where 15 is the new 18. Wonder what a aliens or predator film needs to be r18 these days then.

Also I read today that Jean Claude Van dam, was the original predator for some scenes and was uncredited. Just goes to show u can still learn new things from old films.

Pretty sure it's an R over in the states.
I'm not sure what they can do to increase the rating here, except add nudity or something. That seems to be more of a problem than seeing people being ripped apart.

Van Damme was the original until he realised that his face wouldn't be seen and they realised that their monster design was poo.
That monster design is pretty much what you saw when an alien got airdropped in Predators.

Can't believe there's been so much negativity surrounding it.

Shane Black is directing a Predator film... what's wrong with people?!?!

Black is a terrible director who has to have awful child characters and terrible humour forced throughout his movies.

I did really like The Nice Guys though :D

Black is anything BUT a terrible writer, but some of the elements in this film are utterly putrid. whether that was his input or otherwise. i don't know.

Probably one of the worst reviews i've seen so far ... by all accounts it mostly goes for the comic angle + gore, honestly not sure what to think, certainly confirms why the trailers are all over the place. But at least high production values :)

Some of the other reviews are much kinder, but still confirm the tone.

At least its only 105 minutes long, rather than one of those godawful robots smacking each other films that inexplicably go one for about 170 mins.
