The Predator (2018)

I love the lore of both franchises and will watch everything with Alien and Predator in it.

Having said that AVP and AVPR were a little hard to swallow.

I'm the same, love the universe they each set out!

AVP - I watched a Making Of doc about it and I was shocked how little the director knew of the Predator folklore/background. He basically wanted to make an Alien film and the only way he could was with this cross-over and the lack of respect he showed during pre-production for anything "Predator" actually made me extremely angry. I'm amazed he was picked when he was obviously "anti-predator" rather than being a fan of both.

On the whole I liked Predators and Adrien Brody as the main dude but there could have been a lot of improvements in the movie elsewhere. Other movies I can watch on repeat without too much of an issue.

Laurence Fishbourne in Predators was brilliant. If anyone has read the comics AVP could have been the start of something big. The main female character in it reminds me of Machiko Noguchi (I think thats the one) from the comics who kills a Predator, has the mark on her forehead given by another Predator who witnesses the kill and goes with the Predators and lives with them for years and has various adventures. I did think at the end of AVP when Alexa gets the same mark that it would continue similiarly but it didnt. We got the pants AVP2.

The books/graphic novels started really well but nose dived in quality very quickly. The few decent books (Prey - great graphic novel too - and Hunters Planet) were pretty good but "War" and the Comic stories, wow they sucked hard.

Have some news - that suburbia bit just makes me :(

Olivia Munn Joins “The Predator” Reboot

Olivia Munn (“X-Men: Apocalypse,” “Mortdecai”) is in negotiations to join Boyd Holbrook in Shane Black’s “The Predator” at 20th Century Fox.

Munn will play a scientist opposite Holbrook’s Special Forces commando in the part sequel/part reboot of the franchise.

Black and Fred Dekker co-wrote the script and while details about the new film are being kept under tight wraps, it is confirmed that a good part of the film will be set in suburbia.

A February start date is being targeted.

I just think there will be films which cannot be remade, whether it is the actor or the real motion stunts (non CGI).

Remakes will never be as good as the original. The trouble is Hollywood won't care, if for example, 'Star Wars A New Hope' was to be remade tomorrow, it would make millions for the hype and name alone - even if it was rubbish...

Many of these films are mentioned here, Predator, Alien and as recently proved by Robocop (absolutely rubbish and missed the point of the original)... cannot/could not be remade... but money talks.

Fair enough, but this isn't a remake.

John carpenters the thing is better than the thing from another planet.

Yeah it's not a remake, and given Black is involved I think the hype levels should be pretty high.

As much as I really like some of Shane Blacks films, and think his link to the original film means that this movie will at least be treated respectfully, his talk of "updating" the look/equipment of the Predator has me a little worried.

they always come that whole "we'll respect the original" etc, it's to sucker in fans of the original etc and get money out of pockets. invariably it's all BS. they spouted the same "we're fanboys too" for Predators and it was cac, throwing away the Pred MO and the look, producing some abortion compared to Stan's fabulous creations. they do the same w/ comics, they pick up a title/character and say the writers are uber fans etc, then proceed to present a steaming pile of excrement and/or a total reimagining. Dynamite are masters at that.

With Shane being an actor in the Original and helping re-write some of it's script I've got more belief when he says it. Then again "Iron Man 3" - Ouch! :D
