The Radeon RX 6900/6950 XT Owners Thread.

done this, no change. I still have to clear CMOS to get into bios and that sometimes throws up a GPU error on the post code thing. Might try a new MB bios or just reflash with the same one.

it’s weird. I tried smashing delete, I’ve tried holding shift when I select restart in windows and choosing boot into bios. My monitor (Samsung G9 49inch) doesn’t even turn on until windows log in screen.

Still not running 240hz either as it feels like it’s at 60hz when I select it. Strange. Don’t blame AMD on that one because Nvidia has the same issues.

In other news I might buy a water block for it tomorrow, even though the reference cooler is miles better than the Vega56 blower!

My Samsung G9 is running just fine in 240hz mode on my RTX 3080. Did you update the monitor firmware with a USB stick?

i have received my card this week
sapphire 6900xt nitro+
using at MPT:

1000 Max soc voltage
325 Power Limit
320 TDC

at adrenalin :

2600-2700
voltage max: 1150
mems at 2150
Fast Timing
PL: +15%

this was the result: https://www.3dmark.com/spy/17845235
hotspot max 80-81 - avg +/- 75

dunno yet about the 325 power limit for "24/7" as someone told me that could be stressing out the VRM's

6900XT does not like timespy at all. I wonder if its driver related.

@Romeu Januario - any chance you can run Shadow of the tomb raider using Kaapstaads bench thread settings and post the result there ?

Nice, you managed to get from AMD directly?

What is your default core clock as shown in Radeon Software > Gpu Tuning ?

Sorry for late reply - yes AMD direct.

Default core clock appears to be 2489 .... is that a good/bad/indifferent thing?!

Someone on discord suggested I set the card to:
Core 2489
Voltage 1110
VRAM - Fast Timing
VRAM 2150
Power Limit + 15% (Max)

That is how it was set for my score of 19.4k Gfx... What should I look to tune to improve this?

Seems about normal. Mine is 2499, but i have seen some 40Mhz below that and some 40Mhz above.

I agree with their suggestions, but dial VRAM back to 2012Mhz. Much above that improves scores in synthetics, but hurts performance in games. Tested on a 6800 XT and a 6900 XT.

To improve your score you'll need to use MPT to unlock the power limits, otherwise the 6900 XT is limited to 294W.

Pretend I'm 12 years old please.

MPT? What would you suggest is the safest level to go to using it?

The magical question. The only safe option is the default option.

That said, I personally use 300W Power Limit GPU (W) seen in the screenshot below for my 24/7 MPT settings. I leave power limit at 0% in Radeon Software as i like a 300W ceiling for board power. This is plenty for games IMO and you can run silent fan profiles and keep the Junction temperature below 110C - throttling temp - assuming you have good case airflow, plenty of intake (2-3 fans) and 1+1 exhaust top and rear fan.

I undervolt the MAX SOC voltage to 1.017v (1.000v ish actual under load) which saves a few watts of power and heat.

MPT

1. Download MPT and GPU-Z.
2. Run GPU-Z and save the BIOS somewhere safe on your PC.
3. Launch MPT, click Load, load the BIOS you just saved.
4. Select the drop down box and your 6900 XT.
5. Click Power and Voltage tab.
6. Change only the following, Max soc voltage, Power Limit W, and or TDC (don't really need to touch TDC unless going for silly high power draw).
7. Once you've made your desired changes, click Write SPPT.
8. Reboot.
9. Your settings are applied on next boot.
10 Click Delete SPPT in MPT to restore default values.

On the 6900 XT you'll get best results by lowering voltage from 1.175v, but this can be done in Radeon Software > GPU Tuning.

awww psu fwend.

I've just re-run timespy and getting identical score. Do I need to bring Core speed up to get any higher ?

Try 375W power limit in MPT.
1.017v Max SOC voltage.
100% Fan speed |+ Zero RPM Off
Min Core Frequency 2600Mhz
Max Core Frequency 2700Mhz
Voltage 1.175v
2150Mhz + Fast Timings on Memory
In Game overlay Off, FreeSync off in Radeon Software

i got 20 534 isnt it an "good" score ?

dont have tomb raider

In Timespy, the 6900XT needs to be hitting 22k+ as the 6800XT gets over 20k.

Like i say, I think its a driver optimization problem which will be fixed but it would be good to see more non-3dmark benchmark scores from your card and clockspeed.
