The Radeon RX 7900 XT(X) Owners Thread.

I think for my next upgrade, I will be looking for something that has about 2x the number of Compute Units of my RX 7900 XT, so perhaps 160-180 CUs.

We got more than a doubling of CUs from the 5700 XT to the RX 6900 XT, and that is the main reason why you got approx. double the performance at 4K.

I think it will be quite a wait, and I imagine AMD will only do it if they could keep the power requirements within a reasonable range, e.g. 300-350w. They are going to need much higher transistor density and overall efficiency in design to bring that power usage down.

Obviously, will always upgrade if I can get a great price for my RX 7900 XT eventually!

AMD, y u no offer an upgrade program for GPUs

If RDNA4 is a console generation GPU, I think there's a good chance they will be able to double the performance of the Series X GPU, with whatever console includes this spec of GPU.

In theory, that would grant some impressive 4K performance, especially combined with a higher end CPU.

The only problem is power usage, they'd probably need a doubling in power efficiency as well vs RDNA2, to make this a viable option.

It's got to be affordable for them to produce though, without crazy high MSRP console prices.

I like how techpowerup's website now lists the Series X GPU as 'only' being able to handle 1080p with decent performance :)

New Sapphire 7900 XTX, connected via HDMI on first boot was fine, into the BIOS and got that set up. Moved the PC to its permanent home and now it will only output on HDMI after clearing CMOS. No HDMI, no DP unless I wipe the BIOS settings and then it will show signs of life. No OS installed yet so def not a driver issue.

Any ideas?

Can you update the motherboard bios to the latest version. Can you also check everything is plumbed in correctly. Do you have all the pcie cables plugged in. What’s your power supply. Bit scatter gun that’s how my brain works.

Thank you. I will keep an eye on the gpu temp to see if i can find out why the issue keeps happening.
There should be some errors in Windows event viewer in the system section a few mins or less before the black screen happens. I would remove any new programs you have installed recently.

Is anyone planning to upgrade again when high end RDNA4 cards are released?

In my case, I'm not sure I will, I think I may upgrade again when the generation after next is released.
The left side of my brain will say is it a lot faster than the 7900xtx I have. The right side will say ooooohhhhh shiny. :p

Hi eeii,

The following errors showed last time:

1. Hypervisor launch failed; Either SVM not present or not enabled in BIOS.
2. The virtualization-based security enablement policy check at phase 0 failed with status: Virtual Secure Mode (VSM) is not initialized. The hypervisor or VSM may not be present or enabled.
3. The previous system shutdown at 19:42:22 on ‎21/‎08/‎2023 was unexpected.
4. The system watchdog timer was triggered.

There were then followed by the usual event 41 and 142

5. The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.
6. The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error is caused because the system stopped responding and the hardware watchdog triggered a system reset.

After this there were two more errors:

7. The CTIIO service failed to start due to the following error: The system cannot find the file specified.
8. The server {8CFC164F-E2AF73ED4A19} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout.

I have no idea what this means or if it helps identify any issue.

I have not installed any new programs sorry i missed that part of the message.

Smells to me like some motherboard bios setting that changed from default.
Primary display output selection integrated or dedicated? Pcie 16x slot speed not happy at 4.0? Some Pcie power saving feature?

The problem is it could be anything with those symptoms. I’d tempted to send the pc back to overclockers and get them to stress test it on bench to force it to crash. For all we know it could be an unstable overclock.

I had a feeling that would be the case. The errors seem really generic. I will keep an eye on the GPU temp for now and see if this is possibly the culprit before i send it back again as i need it to work from home. Thanks for taking a look at my information. It's really appreciated.
