The Rangers Saga and Fallout Thread

Clubs will simply have to restructure themselves. If the demise of rangers fc has such an aftershock then these other clubs would die off eventually anyway, it would simply be delaying the inevitable.

Personally I think the home support of these other clubs will be rejuvenated since they have the potential to win something, and in the case of motherwell they atleast have the chance of europe.

Dont think there is really any potential to win something, not unless Celtic downsize massively.

Next years sky money is safe no matter what, we can downsize at the end of next year if we have to, If anyone is giving players long contracts just now then they are silly, but I think what it will do is make a more even playfield, Celtic apart, should Rangers start again in the third.

The funny thing about this, Durrant had a column today saying the other clubs are voting to send Rangers down, Rangers are already out the league, the newco needs to voted back in, which is a completely different scenario.

The Crown Office has today instructed Strathclyde Police to conduct a criminal investigation into the acquisition of Rangers Football Club in May 2011 and the subsequent financial management of the Club.

The investigation into alleged criminality follows a preliminary police examination of information passed to them in February this year by the Club administrators.

The Procurator Fiscal for the West of Scotland will now work with Strathclyde Police to fully investigate the acquisition and financial management of Rangers Football Club and any related reports of alleged criminality during that process.

Long overdue.

Hopefully more productive than their other recent investigations into the club.

As for other clubs' financial position, many looked like they were living beyond their means and allowed Sky money or Old Firm visits to dominate. I suspect at least a few clubs will be in trouble in the near future but hope the restructuring of the finances will mean less reliance on income outwith the home support.

A recent article suggested running the clubs on season ticket money and the other income to be viewed as a bonus. Should be interesting to see if any clubs take on this financial model now.

Edit: ICT release statement of intention to vote no to newco. Official public tally now at four clubs with a further two potential no. Should we wait until the vote officially takes place or should Green drop his SPL bid and apply for the SFL?

Green should save time and submit his bid to join the SFL and pull his application to the SPL as clearly tthere is no point

I'd be surprised if the SPL don't bring forward the date of the vote since the clubs have gone public. Might give them more time for making any other decisions though if they wait?

The problem now is how much of the story of Rangers in the 1st division is true. Fans of the lower divisions won't like that and the SPL chairmen will be hoping with more clubs involved they'll be more likely to vote for the deal.

The SFL have already said the three years worth of accounts is discretionary so looking likely Rangers will at least have somewhere to play next season.

More indications today that Newco is under financial pressure - may sell on again.

More fun and games ahead according to everyone's favourite journalist? ;)

St Johnstone officially confirm late this afternoon of a no vote.

STV's Grant Russell going on Twitter saying SPL rules H5 states SPL becomes an 11 team league or Dunfermline stay up, otherwise no extra space is created in the league for the newco to take. Think it's clear that Dunfermline will be staying in the SPL.

Who would you have then???

Naismith and Whittaker have been pretty much linked since this whole thing started. The former being strongly linked today and rumours are that terms were agreed a few months a go and it's just waiting for him to leave officially before he can sign.

Would prefer an 11 team SPL this season to be honest, 2 promotion places next year, 1 relegation as normal this year.

Rangers suspended for a year and forced to apply to 3rd next year.

If this had happened during the season then yes there would have been no relegation, but it's all happened after Dunfermline have been relegated. Rule H5 is set up for teams ceasing during a season and not in the close season.

I can see it getting all very complicated.

Whats the chance (If any) that Rangers dump the SFL and apply for the English leagues? Sure they would have to start at the bottom but ending up in the PL would be possibly be far more profitable than the SPL ?

None, been gone over countless times before.

You can see the live results of the St Mirren vote as it happens.

Rangers supporters should be showing humility if they want sympathy from non-rangers supporters - not likely is it?

Works both ways. Plenty of hateful posts in this thread. So my view is any club that fails I wish there support as much pain as we have had to endure. I will be first there pointing and calling for "sporting integrity"
