So he never actually used his money to repay the debt like he claimed! As a Liverpool fan I know how it feels to see your club on the brink and more information that comes out about Whyte and the takeover the more he looks bad.

Hasn't Whyte already been prosecuted for doing this to a normal business and been legally banned from owning or running one after his last failures (a mate was talking to me about this last weekend), but because the spl don't have rules on who can own a football club he has sort of gotten away with basically murder.

I do feel sorry for the fan's a bit, but surely the writings been on the wall that the up's of the club have been unsustainable and, as Strachen pointed out yesterday, where Celtic changed their business model a few years ago to avoid this Rangers haven't. Won a few spl titles from it but now are stuck.

I still think the only way out is for Whyte to be arrested and the club to be reformed as it sounds like the financial situation is just too out of hand.

I just wonder if someone can help me here.

My understanding is that Ticketus own nearly 100 000 season tickets.

Now suppose next season people don't renew but just pay at the gate does the money still go to ticketus from individual ticket sales or is their contract exclusively for season tickets?

This story which was breaking on the forums last night that he sold 16 shares of Arsenal that was gifted to RFC(well apparently 14 RFC bought 2) for circa £200k to "consortium called Red and White" then lodged the monies with one of his other companies, which is now being investigated by the FSA and assets frozen, now published by the Daily Record.

Such a long bond between RFC and Arsenal, selling the soul of a football club for £200k

"The close friendship forged between Rangers and Arsenal spans back to the turn of the last century when the Londoners were experiencing financial trouble of their own.

It’s believed Rangers attempted to help out by buying two shares in *Woolwich Arsenal because their manager, George Morrell, had previously worked for the Ibrox club.

Around 20 years later, a much stronger and vibrant Arsenal gifted Rangers with a further 14 shares in return for their support during troubled times.

This cemented what was already a rock solid relationship between the then managers, Bill Struth and Herbert Chapman.Struth and Chapman are today revered by fans all over the world as the greatest servants in the history of their clubs.

But Whyte ignored these historic links when he seized control of Struth’s old side and saw a chance to make a killing on the link."

EDIT

Yahoo reporting now http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/22022012/58/spl-whyte-sells-historic-arsenal-shares.html

"Usmanov bought the 16 shares last year through the market, a source close to the businessman said on Wednesday"

"Rangers legend John Greig said that ending 102 years of history was a terrible decision by Whyte."

Whyte should take a read here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Struth

Bill Struth

"When being presented with the portrait that now hangs in the Ibrox trophy room, Bill Struth said:
I have been lucky — lucky in those who were around me from the boardroom to the dressing-room. In time of stress, their unstinted support, unbroken devotion to our club and calmness in adversity eased the task of making Rangers FC the premier club in this country.

To be a Ranger is to sense the sacred trust of upholding all that such a name means in this shrine of football. They must be true in their conception of what the Ibrox tradition seeks from them. No true Ranger has ever failed in the tradition set him."
Our very success, gained you will agree by skill, will draw more people than ever to see it. And that will benefit many more clubs than Rangers. Let the others come after us. We welcome the chase. It is healthy for us. We will never hide from it. Never fear, inevitably we shall have our years of failure, and when they arrive, we must reveal tolerance and sanity. No matter the days of anxiety that come our way, we shall emerge stronger because of the trials to be overcome. That has been the philosophy of the Rangers since the days of the gallant pioneers."

Even if he did do something wrong in the eyes of the law embezzlement and white collar crime in the UK carries very lenient sentences....

what i would like to know, if this guy Whyte is a known crook, how did he manage to buy a damn football club, not just any football club too but a club with a lot of history (former ranger supporter i say former because i can never watch any of there matches any more)

I thought rules and checks r suppose to take place to stop things like this from happening ? it happend with Liverpool so why not with Rangers ?

Hate to see any team go into Administration (even Celtic)

Didn't Rangers make a bid for Grant Holt(and maybe others) during the transfer window? So they either knew about the problem and tried to continue spending, or it was being hidden by the people up the top.. Either way the entire think reaks, and makes you wonder why there isn't more regulations on ownership of football clubs..

they had actually agreed a deal with Cousin, he even flew out to Glasgow, the next day they went into administration and the deal wasn't finalised in time so i think Cousin just had his time and money wasted.

everyone has known rangers have been in financial difficulty for the past 1-3 years, but the full extent was obviously unknown until they went into administration recently.

the current owner really does have nothing to do with all the problems being faced by the club, they were there before he became the owner.

he is simply trying to either clean up the mess or trying to make a quick buck, or both, it isn't quite sure yet what his full intentions are.

one thing is clear though, his total amount of money put into rangers since takeover has been nil. i think he had promised the old owner and director's etc that he would put a lot of money into the club.

but a lot of new owners have promised the above at several clubs over the years and never delivered. take liverpool for instance, they were promised a new stadium and a decent transfer budget to bring in talent. not a single brick was layed down and they sold off most of their top players in the mean time (Alonso, Mascherano, Arbeloa, etc).

This is getting mad, after reading the plan to axe half the staff to pay the cut wages of the players who potentially hold the most value, I just don't see rangers making it to the end of the season.

If that was the true financial case of the club should't they have been forced into a fire-sale (like Plymouth) instead of doing what I can only describe as doing a pompy. It's like someone knew the wheels would come off the bus, but instead of stopping they tried to reattach them at 50mph and hope the bomb doesn't explode. Especially as there is no way to ensure steven naysmith, for example, can hold any real value if his contract is not really worth the paper its printed on, making the whole episode even more futile.

Shame for football as Rangers owe Dunfermline match day money and now they can't pay their players in full for the month :(. Same problem with pomp that chances are they won't be able to fulfil their fixture list costing other clubs revenue.
