A YouTuber has access to the build of cyberpunk that has the new Overdrive RT mod and holy balls I nearly made love to my screen, It's pure nerd pr0n !

Plenty of side by side comparisons.
Unfortunately the comparison is between RT completely off (1.61) and RT 'Overdrive' so it's hard to get a handle on what improvements there'll be - 'improved' reflections and GI are mentioned. Still no date on this either - hopefully we don't have to wait for Phantom Liberty to see it...

If that is indeed untouched footage then even the 4090 is going to struggle, Those RT effects especially the water look way more advanced than what we've seen so far.

Been looking forward to this for ages, A mate of mine and me were playing The Division 1 when it came out and said "Wouldn't it be great if this had a more I Am Legend feel with more survival based mechanics ?" so quite excited for this !

Only thing with day before, I'm expecting it to be awful and full of bugs, heard lots of bad things about the workforce i.e. relying on interns, fingers crossed it is good though as would have the potential to be epic and a true successor to division.

Can see a lot of these nvidia sponsored titles running horribly on anything but 40xx too :(

I loved that game, quite sad how Ubi squandered such a fantastic IP!

The Division had some amazing potential but as per usual Ubisoft didn't listen to the fans but rather their internal focus groups who seem to be made up of chimps on heroin.

:(

I can see these games coming with Frame Generation, That being the only way to play them with any sort of decent performance and Nvidia saying "LOOK, It runs amazing on our stuff, Buy our stuff !"

The graphical downgrade was a bit shocking too, did you notice? Maybe it's just them being more honest and managing expectations...

I'm expecting the 4090 to run Atomic Heart ok, maybe maxed 4k with DLSS3/FG and we'll get roughly 65-75fps (hopefully!).

The team making this game do not have a good track record so I'm expecting graphics nowhere near what we saw in all the RTX videos and a plethora of bugs with the game being abandoned only a few months after launch, Pessimistic ? Yes but Ubisoft and CDPR have taught me to never trust studios.

Actually, that's not RT off, it's RT Psycho all effects enabled. I did a similar comparison when they showed it off. (See post below)

Decided to try to line-up a shot from Cyberpunk trailer. This is a look at the upcoming Overdrive mode (which is likely to halve the fps - again) compared to Psycho mode that's currently available.

Most noticeable change is imo the extra light bounces on the underside of ceilings and off buildings generally, and the higher res reflections (not sure this part actually looks better though).

Imo the graphical improvements won't seem like a big deal, but it's a nice cherry on top if you already have top-end hardware. I definitely wouldn't worry about it otherwise, the most important thing is to have all RT effects on (lighting on medium). Going beyond that is not going to make as much of a difference.

Just bought Jurassic world Evolution 2, Nice game but for whatever reason they put Frame Generation in there, Even in a full park it makes very little difference.

Empty park but just to give an example, Stats on the top left.

With FG -

Without FG -

With FG it makes basically no difference to FPS and uses 50 watts more, Amazing..... /s

Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy & Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast With Native Ray Tracing Mod Look Mighty Impressive

Artist Mr Zyanide is working on a native ray tracing mod for both Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy & Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast, and the results are pretty impressive.

Zyanide's aim is to convert both titles to real-time ray tracing using Q2RTX's path tracer. So yeah, this isn't just your usual ReShade RTGI shader, but a mod that implements native ray tracing using path tracing. "I've always considered ray tracing the pinnacle of graphics and now that it can be done in real-time I wanted to learn all about this new tech", the artist explains on his blog back in May of 2021. "Some months prior to the release of RTX cards I found out that Jedi Outcast's code had been open sourced and since I like the game I decided to combine both things."

Then why are the RT reflections so bad? Cyberpunk 1.61 has half-res RT reflections which look massively better than the (screen space?) reflections in that video:

Your Psycho RT image:
Keep in mind I just get a direct screenshot from my own gameplay, what you saw in the video was compressed twice and low bitrate. Also, I used FSR 2 rather than DLSS, so the sharpening difference might make it pop a bit more. It's RT in both cases, imo it's clear because RT reflections have a certain look that's unmistakable compared to SSR (the blurred look, which I prefer vs what you see in overdrive where full res = mirror-like), in fact the SSR version will look much sharper than the RT refls. precisely because the latter are half res. and SSR are iirc full res at ultra.

edit: here's some old photos I found, you can see the blurrier reflections for RT particularly on the bottom left https://imgsli.com/MTQ1MjYw https://imgsli.com/MTQ1MjYy

You're telling me that both of the above images are using the same reflection settings? I think it's pretty clear (even with YouTube as a factor) that they're not - here's a crop from the video:

I'm not much of a Night City tourist, but here's how the reflections look for me:

No need to guess, I just did SSR Ultra vs RT Psycho:
Yeah - I was just looking into that myself - thanks for the examples. Ok, so there's clearly *some* RT going on in that video but I still think it's been dialled down to make the 'Overdrive' stuff look more striking in comparison (I'm stunned at how bad those RT reflections look). Hopefully we won't have to wait too much longer to see for ourselves.
