I prefer the look of the SSR reflection in Poneros example.

What's the performance cost difference between the two out of interest?
The SSR in Cyberpunk's not bad at all:

Until you move the camera up or down and, of course, no reflection from stuff which is not in your view.

:D

But in all seriousness, that is where when actually playing the game and in motion, there is just no comparison, driving through night city when it is wet/raining looks incredible with RT because reflections are being displayed correctly and not randomly disappearing.

We had many saying SSR ad lighting + shadows was/is gimped to make RT look better but as shown many times, SSR etc. is actually very well done and arguably still one of the best games for raster methods alone. There is only so much that one can achieve with the old and outdated raster methods with no way to overcome its limitations though...

Biggest advantage/difference in RT reflections for cp outside of the obvious "puddles" is in glass windows and metal surfaces:

I recall a realistic GTAV mod, not sure if that had it but I'd imagine that would look good.

RT mod? That was reshade forced RT i.e. only uses what is in your frame/view (I believe nvidia bought that and added it to their game filter/geforce overlay plugin for supported games), it's good for very specific scenarios/screenshots but in motion it's not great, you still get reflections disappearing and if people think RT is too "mirror" like, this literally was like a mirror :D

GTA 5 official RT reflections looks great though.

That is not what I was thinking, I believe the mod was called Realstic GTa or something generic, also didn't realise it had it natively. Tried to google the mod but quite a few with similar names.

More than likely it is reshade doing "RT", most of them "realistic graphics + RAY TRACING" videos are based on that

Interesting that James Cameron is overseeing the game as he wants justice done with the game and game world. All in all, sounds very promising, lets hope it doesn't release in a poor state like so many other games recently....

That did help thanks. I guess my point is with this particular game, I didn't notice half the stuff on this video. Somebody had to point out for me so I guess I didn't really appreciate it which is my thoughts of this technology in general.

When I can get CP on offer that will be a better example no doubt.

He was happy to release his movie in a poor state though, so don't expect much :p

We enjoyed the first movie but the second one apart from cgi was a bit of a snoozefest.

I loved the first one, not seen the second yet, waiting for UHD to watch on the OLED for those deeeeeeeeep blacks so yeah I'll be waiting a while :p

Story and plot is run of the mill but it's the world and visuals that you go to enjoy, also the characters/casting was pretty good (even if your typical characters of the military man, grunt, nerd, scientist, love interest). As long as they nail pandora in the game and have somewhat decent mechanics (mix of assassins creed odyssey and division), it will be getting many hours from me.

Personally I have found ray tracing vs rasterization to be very much like g/free sync vs no sync, 120+ hz vs 60 HZ experience i.e. you don't fully notice/appreciate it until you go back to the inferior option e.g. RT reflections whilst immediately noticeable, you don't realise just how bad SSR is until you go back, especially with regards to reflections randomly disappearing as you move the camera ever so slightly e.g. rdr 2 I felt was perfect for reflections but going back to after playing something like CP 2077, you see all the issues with raster methods. Issues like this stick out like a sore thumb now:

With lighting, AO, shadows, it's more a case of something doesn't look/feel right when you go back to raster visuals and you can't quite put your finger on it until you start looking at the specifics e.g. the way the light illuminates a room + objects, casts hard + soft shadows etc.

Avatar FOP was my most anticipated game of last year. I have a lot of faith in Massive based on just how god dang great both Division games were (though unfortunately their online-only nature is prone to breaking them after they move on :(). I don't think they'll disappoint this time either.

Well, hopefully in a few generations the performance impact will be reduced to a point where it will be acceptable for most players.

Yup hopefully avatar will run as well as what metro ee does and cause a chain event for other developers to take note of what is possible when you embrace a workflow to work entirely around RT and not a hybrid method like we see most often, it will certainly get more attention than what metro ee does anyway!

Noticed quite the jump in nvidia staff present in the remix DC server (was originally just 2 guys from nvidia) helping out modders with the remix config. If only nvidia would release the damn tool already!
