Reference 56

It's not hard to still find the EK-FC Radeon Vega online, can't link as that's a competitor. Alphacool block (AMD RX Vega M01) is also available. Both are as expensive as any new block though, so yeah not quite "reasonable price" I guess, but you can at least still get them.

For a "reasonable" price you'll have to be on the 2nd hand markets I guess, we're both quite a ways away from the members market here though so I can't help you with one even though I've got an unused EK-FC sitting around at the moment.

I bought Sapphire Vega 56 in the sale. It had pretty bad coil whine so much so that I was going to return it but first I tried to burn it in like suggested on these forums. I left it running Heaven overnight for 8 hours and there did appear to be a small difference but still bad. I then upgraded my PSU from a Corsair CX600 to a Corsair RM850i, that didn't make any difference to the whine but I do really like the new PSU. Then I left it running all my games uncapped FPS high load and I actually heard the coil whine shift frequency when idling in Shadow Warrior 2, it was like the GPU had frozen/crashed because of the difference in noise.

So long story short after 7 days of stress testing and heavy gaming the whine has reduced to the point it no longer bothers me with my headset off. So I am a very happy Vega owner.

Can I join the club?

Hey Guys, recently got the Gigabyte Vega 56. Is there any reason why it sounds like a jet engine? I've upgrade form 1060 3gb which was silent under load. it sits idle around 47-50c then up to 68-70 in game.

Is this common? i can hear the fans in the next room with door closed.

Just got my Sapphire Vega 56 Pulse today!
Won't be fitting for a couple of days though as I'm waiting for something else.
Fingers crossed it doesn't have coil whine.
Anyone found any good guides for undervolting/overclocking these cards? I realise they'll all be a be different, but a starting point (and advice) would be handy. Thanks.

You need to undervolt your Vega 56 most owners do this, google vega 56 undervolting its easy to do.

+50 power limit, 920mhz Mem, +6% Core, 1125mV s6+7

Getting 1670mMHz stable, temp 70C, fan 1600rpm

A decent bump of 10% performance over stock, and I think there's more to be had out of it.

Right had a bit of a nightmare with the Saphire Vega 56.
Whilst waiting for my new Seasonic Focus Plus Gold 850w to arrive installed it with my old Antec SG850 which actually turned out to be a SG650 (it was 10 years ago i bought it and last time i had it out of my system was a couple of years ago.)
Problem straight away it only had 1x8 pcie cable could not find the other modular cables and anyway after a quick search online it only came with 1x8 and 1x6 pin pcie anyway.
ok back to the GTX1060 for the time being.
Seasonic arrived this morning , 3 hours later got it all installed , the damned 8 pin CPU connector on the Asus Z97-K is right behind the Corsair H115i radiator if it is top mounted so had to pull that out to get it in.
Power on , straight to BIOS , you mother.
1/2 hour later noticed no ssd detected oops suppose it does need power to work so better connect it.
DDU'd the nvidia drivers , boot into win 10 without drivers no problem.
Installed Radeon driver 18.11.2 , restart boot into window got to desktop then blackscreen.
Son of a bitch.
DDU restart reinstall Drivers still the same.
DDU again.
Hmmm maybe have got the dreaded Seasonic Focus PSU incompatability problem that seems to have surfaced on the web recently.
2 hours searching the garage found the modular cables for my Antec SG650.
Antec SG650 back in 1x8pin pcie and 1x6pin pcie with 6 to 8 adapter connected.
Vega 56 back in.
Boot into windows , ok so far reinstall driver reboot black screen.
So PSU not the issue.
GTX1060 back in , no problems.
Seasonic back in GTX1060 installed overclocked an hour of stress testing no problem.
DDU ,
Vega 56 back in .
Boot into windows reinstall reboot blackscreen again,
2 cans of Carlsberg export later searched online for vega blackscreen , yes loads of threads blaming everything from the PSU , Windows , Radeon drivers and other celestial events common fix seems to be a windows reinstall .
oh God.
But one thread caught my eye. Uninstall MSI afterburner.
Ok here we go one last time then this piece of junk is going back to overclockers
Uninstall MSI afterburner
DDU , driver install reboot.
Pray .
Hold on its took me to the AMD website thanking me for installing AMD radeon software , never had that before.
Several hours of stress testing later and an hour of Far Cry 5 and its been fine.
So the culprit in my case was MSI Afterburner , dont know if it was trying to +175 on the core & +925 on the memory like i had it set for my GTX1060 .
Have not reinstalled MSI afterburner yet too busy relaxing and listening to the gentle hum of the Vega , whilst knocking back the other 2 cans of export.
Oh and no coil whine although i would not of cared if it sounded like a banshee as long as it worked.

Glad its worked out buddy!

Yes I have seen afterburner cause issues with my overclock settings on my 1060 and vega too. Might force myself to just use OverdriveNT in future.

Should have been one of the first things i uninstalled but had no problems having it installed when i went from a RX480 to GTX1060 to GTX1050ti then back to a GTX1060.

I've had no trouble from Afterburner, but I haven't used it for overclocking in years, only monitoring. Might well be that people who do use it for overclocking are running into trouble!
