The Show Off Your Tattoo Thread

Most intriguing. Where did you learn about such things?

Got into buddhism about 10 years ago, always wanted a tattoo so started looking for inspiration. Found a wonderful site http://www.tashimannox.com/index.php, loved his artwork so much I asked if I could use two of his designs :).

The word strength in horyig script was perfect as in my opinion the horyig script is a very bold and strong looking script. It's inception was in the time of Kublai Khan, basically who wanted a standardised script for the mongolian empire. So quite a powerful history behind it. I have it on the inside of my left forearm as I'm naturally right handed. So to have it on my weaker arm is to remind me that we all have to strengthen our weaknesses to become stronger (both physically and spiritually).

The Om Ma Ni Pehme Hum tattoo, I loved the more flowing style of the brushed uchen script. I won't go into what is means as I really only have a small grasp of it. This is what H.H. Tenzin Gyatso, 14th Dalai Lama says about it (grabbed from wikipedia);

It is very good to recite the mantra Om mani padme hum, but while you are doing it, you should be thinking on its meaning, for the meaning of the six syllables is great and vast

The first, Om symbolizes the practitioner's impure body, speech, and mind; it also symbolizes the pure exalted body, speech, and mind of a Buddha.

The path is indicated by the next four syllables.

Mani, meaning jewel, symbolizes the factors of method: (the) altruistic intention to become enlightened, compassion, and love.

The two syllables, padme, meaning lotus, symbolize wisdom.

Purity must be achieved by an indivisible unity of method and wisdom, symbolized by the final syllable hum, which indicates indivisibility.

Thus the six syllables, om mani padme hum, mean that in dependence on the practice of a path which is an indivisible union of method and wisdom, you can transform your impure body, speech, and mind into the pure exalted body, speech, and mind of a Buddha.

Much, much better put that I could ever explain ;)

My first ever tattoo that I decided to cover up:

What I decided to cover it up with.. needs a little work over the old tattoo but still.. not noticeable on a glance.

So you got one tattoo that you didn't like and decided you'd cover it up with another tattoo only this time you chose a tattoo that can't possibly be covered up.

With one I had designed for me - the other was a magazine random that I got.

However I've always liked the Xenomorph and wanted something different other than a tiger or jaguar on my arm (not that they dont often look very good but they're common. It took me over 2 years to get it done from design to finish. Took 6-8 months for the design for it to be the way I wanted which gave me ample time to decide I wanted it.

^ That's cool cos these tattoo'd people probably wouldn't employ someone as closed minded as you either.

As if I would be working for someone with tattooed arms/legs/face or whatever.

Its almost like self harming. These people seem to have accepted their under average role in life, and "brand" themselves, thus assuring everyone knows what they stand for.

You dont see Doctors with "tats", or any other respected and successful profession.

Sure, if you like manual labour, working on a rig, or some grotty "fashion" store, great, but your screwed if you want to rise to the top.

Would YOU employ say.... an Airline Pilot with tats all over himself, or holes in his ears? I think not.

Its a shame really, as so many people regret it later in life.

I think a lot of it is down to maturity too, I used to want a tattoo so badly, but eventually grew out of it.

As if I would blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah.

Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah.

Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah

Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah eventually grew out of it.

Lol, you seem the kind of guy who wants back-boneless gimps working for him who have no character, no sense of expression and just do what they're told. I hate people like you who expect others to fit your model of 'proper'.

I would welcome him with open arms, what reason do I have not to??

Do go away.

Thankyou.

So someone who isn't a doctor isn't considered respectful?
Oh you charming chap.

Troll detected.

Besides, I don't usually get many "respected and successful professionals" taking off their clothes to show people their tattoos at work.

You say people with body art or piercings are morons, when in fact you come across as possibly the most uneducated, foolish person on the forums. Congratulations.

While you may not hire people because of body art, people won't hire you because you're a ****, and ***** are bad for business.

Why do I have to get the one with sand in his vagina when i post my pictures :(

Its cool guys, let him has his moment of superiority.. he needs it! :D
