The Show Off Your Tattoo Thread

My question really is, what do you class as a reasonable tattoo? My understanding of a tattoo is something that is of meaning or unique to yourself. Be it of a personal interest or something family related or pretty much anything the individual chooses.

As I said earlier, there are people who regret certain tattoos and wish they had put more thought into them.

Then you have people who just do tattoos on a whim and have no idea why they did it in the first place.

Case in point: I was awaiting to get my back tattoo done when a couple walked in. Both chavs, mind. The male had the name of an ex on his arm. He wanted the tattooist to go over that with the name of his new lass and was asking how much it would cost. You can tell by the look of the tattooist he was not wanting to even talk to the dude. The couple were clearly off their heads. In the end it made me realise that I prefer to have my designed how I want it and let the tattooist know and should he feel the need to make changes he will let me know and we can work together.

I plan my tattoos, I don't just do them on a whim.

Well said!

I see so here come my bit of Pseudo-Psychology. Instead of addressing him as someone you knew and having a two way conversation about your concern for him. You decided to try an pretend to not know him in the hope that lots of people would agree with you and then you could all feel better about yourselves by taking the mick?
How you like them apples?

I don't pretend to 'know' him. He worked in our dept for a bit, then left. He's a nice lad. I never had any intention whatsoever to 'take the mick' and can only apologise if he thought I was.

Your clearly not just 'intrigued' you told him 'I think you need help mate, honestly'

So basically insulted him.
'

That was not my intention, and realise it was badly worded.

So we've worked together for what, 3 months? Cos that's how long I was there for. And here I am posting my tattoo as both a work of art and something I am happy with and you take it upon yourself to insult me for my choices cos I am 32 years old.

Good one dude. Let's hope I don't have to work with you ever again.

I don't think you can claim bad wording when there's half a dozen posts (wrongly) making him out to have some kind of mental damage. I don't even know that an apology is going to help at this late stage.

It's definitely too late for an apology. He's made his statement and whether he wants to admit or not, he insulted me purely based on my tattoo choices and believes it to be something that happened to me as a child. I worked in the dept he's referring to for just 3mths. And he's already made his mind up about the kind of person he perceives me to be.

I would disagree with you here.

1) I don't see it as art and I don't believe it to be creative, although I do see many tattoos as art and very creative, just not those.
2) It was never my intention to insult you, and if you have been offended, I appologise. Beleive it or not, I was concerned when I saw them as I thought you were a nice lad.
3) I very much doubt you'll be working here again.

I wouldn't take it to heart. I think Superman is horrible and I can't 'get' comics, however if it's what you want in life then go for it - I think what's wrong is to pursue whatever pop culture (or indeed what I) say you should be pursuing. Follow your interests, and enjoy yourself. People like him just need to deal with it :)

Really shows how much you know me dude. I don't care if you don't find them as art or creative, but my tattooist does and so do my REAL friends. And you are neither. Keep your "opinions" to yourself in future.

As I've already said, I don't know you...

My opinions are exactly that, my opinions. Be mindful this is a discussion forum, and you should be prepared for a level of interest when you post pictures of your large superman tattoos online.

The Superman ink looks great!! What are the rest of the plans for the Justice part?

TheDean - bore off zzzzzzz

I'm getting the logos of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Aquaman, Green Lantern and Martian Manhunter underneath the word Justice.

Can't wait :D
