The Show Off Your Tattoo Thread

The Dean you need to grow up mate, i know a guy who's got at least four x-men tattoo'd on his arms yet he's one of the nicest blokes you'll meet and makes for a great wingman.

Got this in October 2010, not long after splitting with my mrs. I'd wanted one for about a decade but could never settle on my design.
This, though, means a lot to me.....and i love it. Its my left chest if anyone was wondering. ;)

This was always part 1 of 2 and the mist in the background was there so that originally part 2 would have the kanji for the virtues of bushido carried in the mist to my shoulder and around the top of my shoulders to the other one.

It's one thing to be a fan / geek / whatever, but this is on a whole new level mate. In my opinion, I see this as heavily detrimental to a normal life. I worry why a man of 32 feels the need to immerse himself so completely, and to physically mark themselves in such a way with stuff from a fantasy comic.

If you haven't to spoken to someone already about why you feel the need to escape so completely from your real life and transport yourself to a fantasy land, I would suggest you do so.

I'm not having a go whatsoever, just genuinely concerned as your behaviour is not usual. It would be interesting to find out quite why you have latched onto a fictional, american cultural icon. I do strongly suspect it has something to do with your childhood, but only you know quite what.

Primary requirements for a tattoo 'should' be:

1) You really, really want the tattoo.
2) It really, really means something to you.

He obviously fits both of those requirements. It's unusual to have such tattoos, yes, but by no means a precedent, and there are plenty more weird and wonderful tats in the world. Live and let live, and drop the faux "im worried for you" act, when it's clearly just an excuse for you to have a dig in the most patronising way you can possibly muster.

^That is awesome!!

Thanks, i agree. The artist did a fantastic interpretation of what i gave him.

I had it over the heart side of the chest as to me it signifies the undying warrior spirit, to never stay down, never give up, to always fight, with all your heart.
A philosophy i do try to live by.
Plus most of my life has been spent studying martials arts, notably japanese sword arts.

But if you don't believe in all that, then at the end of the day, its a splendid piece of art imho. :)

As I've already said, I don't know you...

My opinions are exactly that, my opinions. Be mindful this is a discussion forum, and you should be prepared for a level of interest when you post pictures of your large superman tattoos online.

Do you have any tats?

Every tat is what that person wants. Maybe there is a reason behind, maybe not. You shouldn't have replied like you did

I have 11 tats. A few i wish i hadnt had done but the rest have a reason behind them and might not be to everyones taste. Do i care? No!

Who wrote that rule?

Half of my tattoos are meaningless, I got them because I like the artists style of work.

Then it means something to you... you appreciate his style of art.

I haven't met many people with tattoos who haven't regretted one that means nothing to them, or people without a tattoo wanting to get one who are waiting till they find one that means something to them in some way. It's common, and makes sense considering you'll be staring at it for the rest of your life.

Unless its on your butt!! Not mine!! lol

That's what I was thinking. Most people don't just get one on the whim.

The only time I have really desired getting a tattoo was when I was 14. I wanted it for around three years. That thought faded during the time when I could not get one and when I was legal to have one. I look back now and I'm so happy that thought faded, it definitely would have been a mistake.

My little brother has two tattoos and while I agree that the first one was good, the second one wasn't imo (both family oriented) and it's quite big. I just don't think I could ever settle on one and not regret it in the future.

There are plenty of ones that I could get that mean something to me but I just don't want to risk it :p

Guys, can anyone recommend a decent tattoo place around Leamington Spa/Coventry/Birmingham?
Anyone with any experience of these guys in Brum?

Modern Body Art

They seem to have some good reviews and it looks a bit better than your average shop on the high-street. I know it's more about the artists than the shop they sit in but without any feedback from others it's hard to decide where to go!

The shop has a very good reputation country wide.
