I drove a TM3LR (yes not a BMW…) guy before was late back so they let me have it for an hour so I just drove home and back
and I was actually surprised at the biggest different to my IPACE I didn’t realise. The Tesla doesn’t seem to have any character, all just matter of fact, steer point go. Didn’t realise there was a degree of fluidity and substance the IPACE control until comparing. I was also surprised there more of roll even though the saloon, interesting difference to the model S i drive with air which was much flatter.
The TM3 in blue and white interior was striking and the screen being so slick helps the experience and allows so much control in the screen, and has brilliant forward vision. That white dash though even in winter was glaring, particularly passenger side. Just odd the driving left me cold when pressing on and the brakes initially felt really good for low speed and typical driving, immediate response but 2nd big application after a fast road section the car was all over the place. Might have just been a overworked test drive car with pressures needing checking but offered significantly less “reward” to pressing on.
I guess this is where the Performance model exists to fill the space. Wasn’t as fast as 0-60 suggests either, the Jag feels and Speedo climbs faster which again surprised me. Priced at £52k without the AutoPilot stuff - it is an expensive car and for me the interior just appeal to my taste/expectation. Decent space inside so Model Y will be cavernous. The guy going on about the tech in the Tesla being much better than the IPACE i was driving...
No CarPlay, No matrix lights, no cooled seats, no camera mirror options, no 360 surround, no HUD display so that does get tiresome.
Interior much better than the model S and is good, doorcards and console much better. Screen and steering wheel control is bonkers but guess that's okay to adjust mirrors and steering wheel when static and i know it needs time as its overwhelming at first.
Don't know if that mirror pop up on indicating is a new feature below?
Also odd the guy was giving me a tech explanation of visual neural network and how its better than LIDAR cos it can see actually traffic light colours. I was playing customer muggle so found that a bit odd assuming I even knew what LIDAR was - the no pressure sales at a popup centre is refreshing though and means good rural roads straight away
