The Tesla Thread

The insurance thing is interesting, I've seen a few posts on the Tesla Model 3 UK Facebook group where companies aren't offering renewals and telling customers to go elsewhere for cover.

Bit of a random question for you guys, but I set my car to be warm for 6.30 and 3.30 so it's ready for me going to/from work. Why does it notify at 12 minutes past the hour that its ready?

That sounds great. I can’t wait for consistency!

If I schedule this X1 PHEV to be warm for 7:30 then it’ll START at 7:30 so I have to guess how long pre-conditioning will take, but that depends on ambient, so there is no single time that actually works. I’ve settled for 7:10 but sometimes the car isn’t warm at all and other times it’s about right. It also doesn’t tell you that it’s ready.

The extended mudflaps come as standard? I’m interested in those as the stone chipping can be bad without.
They bolt on to the existing flaps and extend vertically down. They’re really long and will rip off when you drive over a speed bump.

I would get aftermarket if you don’t think the standard flaps will do the job.

In my experience it normally does precondition about 15 mins ahead of time. Just adjust your schedule to 6:45 and 3:45 and you’ll be golden.

Good to know. I’m intending to do PPF on the sills so should be safe without the extending ones.

That's what I've done now. Quite cool that it preconditions to an area (in most cases its going to be work and home), can't see anyway of changing one if you're at the other though.

Sounds like you’re programming the preconditioning in the car? You can alter the precondition schedule in the app but you only get one “start” time which I find strange.

By that I mean, they’ve added charge stats to the app but the precondition options are pretty limited in there (for now) compared to the car.

After last week’s lolquotes for Insurance, it now seems Admiral will cover me for £500~

Nothing has changed except the fact that it’s now a week later.

No I'm doing it from the app, but only when at either work or home so its actually not too bad.

Next question, there's a type 1 charger at work, has anyone used a type 1 to 2 adapter as I don't think work are charging for use and it would save me 50 quid a month.

Type 1 to type 2 cable/adapter should be fine.

A type 1 charger is pretty rare these days, I think even Leaf owners tended to use untethered type 2 chargers with type 2 to type 1 cables as I think the car came with a Type 2 to Type 1 cable. I'm sure someone may correct me if I am wrong there.

How the hell are you spending £50 a month on electricity?

I’ve barely spent that since September! (£48.97 to be exact).

all joking aside, this was always going to be the case. TAX has to come from somewhere, and once everyone is driving around in EVs there's not going to be many people wanting petrol.....I guess only track day cars

Electricity will be very VERY expensive in the future. We can only hope by then, battery technology will have improved and EVs will be significantly more efficient.

Who knows, maybe when I'm a grandad I'll be saying "I can remember a time when we only used to get 3kw per mile lol"

I think ultimately they’ll use road pricing to claw back lossed tax revenue from petrol.

Electricity will become more expensive as we head to greener generation anyway, but to slap tax on top of that would really hurt the poorest of society.

What have you changed it to? :D
You can have up to 5 custom sounds. I’ve got:

  1. Baseball organ build up
  2. KITT introduction (I’m the voice of the knight…)
  3. P-hub jingle
  4. Sgt Doakes “surprise mother*******”
  5. Emotional damage
I run them off a USB C stick in the centre console. First time I played around with the boom box I played the KITT intro and the guy opposite was working from home with his window open.

He messaged me to say “I thought Michael knight was outside! I had to mute my call :D
