The Tesla Thread

Ha! No, it’s more of an introduction, specifically 3:09 onwards in this clip:

My charger reckon I've used 300kwh in the last 30 days and I pay 17p a kwh. Am I working it out wrong?
No, that’s just much higher than I pay on Octopus Go (5p a kWh).

Do you have a Tesco nearby with free charging?

At 17p/kWh it’s almost certainly not worth signing up to go when the day rate is 30p, household usage is also probably in the region of 300kwh a month.

You can’t just look at car usage and ignore household usage. That said I would expect a tariff in 17p will be coming to an end in the next 4-6 months and moving to go may be beneficial then.

This was my scenario last year - my flat rate ending this month is 14.5p and it didn't work out better to switch to a low off-peak EV rate, when I factored in the higher on-peak usage for the rest of my house. [Factored into this calculation was £500 of public charging credit and no scheduled charging on my car or charger]

This year it's different though, I don't have £500 of credit and my car & charger have been updated with scheduled charging. I can also switch the use of some appliances to start during off-peak hours

The only problem with a 30p day rate means our fish tank costs will be about £600 per year to heat :( @Jonnycoupe : yes, this is our 'Magic desk lamp'

There is, but if I parked it there for 6 hours to charge it fully they might get upset:cry:. I did look at octopus, but as already said the day rate is currently horrendous, my fix runs out in September so will be interesting:eek:.

Also I've only had the car 2 months, so my costs may be skewed due to winter.

The desk lamp :D

I'm off to test drive a model 3 at the Ashby event in a mo. I've made sure my car is clean too and thankfully for both reasons its still dry roads
I thought you had one given how much you post in this thread ;)

Unfortunately for me, until charging is A) Quicker, B) More widespread, and C) has the capacity for more range, they are useless for me.

Which is a real shame as I love the Model S.

7 years for this to come full circle :D

Is this an owners only thread then ?

Would be about 5 people if owners - i even saw two chaps in the car park just looking at mine, having forced Tesla weirdo small talk

Its bad when I'm more informed I know - not sure how many people 'have one' anyway.

Ciao.

Odd isn’t it. Since having the Model 3 I’ve had quite a few randomers ask questions about it and there’s a few Tesla owners who have wanted to chat (mainly at Superchargers). Delivery drivers often ask about it too (at least the younger ones).
Only other car I’ve owned that had any real attention is the Audi S1, and that was because I had one of the first cars in the UK. But nothing like this.

The current Octopus day rate is about 30p/kWh, which is going to be about the new price cap price on a variable come April - I don't think you'll be that far off. Especially as there is another rise coming in October...

Curiosity about a genuine new experience for a lot of folk, especially with such a public brand/image that Tesla has. They prompt discussion, which is a good thing in the change over to BEV's for the masses, even if they weren't looking to buy a Tesla and that has to be good. We need more people to be interested so they can help educate themselves, that a BEV isn't some voodoo magic, it is just a car with a motor and a battery installed.
