The Tesla Thread

Can anyone explain how the tesla trade in works? Do they take the price off the model you’re wanting to buy, if you pay in cash full? Or if you finance, the balloon payment at the end?

It’s off any down payment you set when purchasing.

if you put down £10k and take a £40k loan, any trade in comes off the £10k

if you pay the full £50k in cash, it comes off that £50k

Then I traded my 11 year old tatty diesel hatch back in, they gave me a price far higher than I was expecting so it was well worth enquiring. They paid well above WBAC’s estimate without any damage declared.

I may have got more selling privately but we are talking at most £200 of anything at all. Losing £200 was well worth the prospect of dealing with tyre kickers on Facebook.

My brother is over at the Trafford Center picking up his new M3LR, first problem was they couldn’t find the car, then they found it but it had the wrong plates on it, it’s got a scuff above the drivers door handle, but worst of all, it’s got a dying 12v battery.

Doesn’t fill me with confidence for my collection next week!

not ideal by any means....They are pumping out so many in a day, stuff happens.

I do hear a lot of moaning about this but the alternative is that they do say 20% of the current handovers in a day, spend time prep'ing the car/checking them thoroughly etc - it just means lead times then get pushed months and months down the line....

Trafford centre I heard are doing 150-200 handovers a day - imagine your local Audi/Ford dealer doing the same.... Not a chance.

My M3 was 15/20 minutes shown round the car as a group of us (6 or 7 picking up I remember) - 2.5 years ago. Then check it over, sign here, off you go.

Hoping my MY LR pick up will be - drive in M3, hand over cards, point me at my MY, let me drive off..... haha

I partly agree, but a lot of it seems to be simple stuff that you just can’t forgive. There is zero reason for a car to be delivered with a ruined 12v battery (worse to be told that there is a lack of spare parts), perhaps actually handing over cars at a dealership is a good thing, rather than a random carpark where you’ve erected a tent.

Collecting a brand new car should never be anything other than a positive experience, that’s not to say that there shouldn’t ever be issues, but the manner in which problems are resolved is something that Tesla clearly still needs to learn, which is disappointing given they’ve been in the game 10 years at this point.

I’ve rejected my model 3 LR. Well, I’ve emailed them notice that I intend to reject.

It’s approaching 6 months in a few weeks and there’s still some niggles with the charge port (after it has been replaced along with the main cable to the battery) that exist. Thankfully I reported this concern within the first 30 days which should strengthen my position. In an unrelated matter, I’ve also added how I’ve made a total of 9 other service visits since getting the car which should hammer home the ‘not fit for purpose’ etc.

I’ll see what Tesla finance say but I’m hoping it’ll be a slam dunk given the charge port has already been replaced once and it occasionally tells me to fully secure the cable … even though it’s all the way home (this was the behaviour of it before it just wouldn’t charge at full rate). I don’t see why I should accept a second attempt to repair now… not on an EV that has issues charging. That’s fundamental.

With car prices high I have been exploring what options I’ll have if they argue and in the account section on their website I’ve found an early lease termination which says I can end the lease early and only pay a penalty of 2 months lease. If I do that I’ll lose my original deposit (£6000) so I’m going to push for a full or partial refund and put it toward a new M3.

Annoyingly I thought I’d get ahead of the curve and preorder another M3 just to secure my place in the queue (November!) and then faff around sorting out the closing of the old lease etc but now the price has gone up. I spoke to customer service who couldn’t do anything about the price so it was a bit salty. I’ll see what the official response is.

I had an issue with charging at the outset with my M3. Wouldn't charge at full speeds on 7/22kw chargers but was fine on 50kw

Did some "testing" and it some faulty AC charging issues, as the DC was fine. Replaced the "penthouse" as they called it and since then, zero issues. Was nothing to do with the charging port or anything. Not sure if that's a similar issue to yours but I can send you the proper info from the invoice of what they changed etc.

They replaced the port and the main cable to the battery. I haven’t dug out the invoice to look specifically at what was changed but my point to them is; it’s failed once, now it’s going again.

I’m within my rights to reject the car, so just have to see what they say.

ok - good luck - I suspect a battle but I hope I'm wrong for your sake!

Bearing in mind I've only had my car for 4 months, my trip tonight averaged 267w/m, that's nigh on 100w less per mile than my average. This cold weather makes a massive difference to my average.

When I ordered my M3 the delivery date was Nov 22 which was ok as it's not long after my current lease is up. I've just checked my account and it's changed to May 21 - June 18

Ideally I'd like it for September

What should/can I do?
