The Tesla Thread

When I ordered my M3 the delivery date was Nov 22 which was ok as it's not long after my current lease is up. I've just checked my account and it's changed to May 21 - June 18

Ideally I'd like it for September

What should/can I do?
You don’t have to accept the slot, however you will essentially be put to the back of the queue.

If you’ve ordered a relatively common spec/combination then you’ll probably be offered another slot before November, but there are unfortunately no guarantees. You can also keep an eye on inventory yourself (or get Tesla staff to have a look for inventory you cannot see) and move to a different spec car at any point.

My brother is over at the Trafford Center picking up his new M3LR, first problem was they couldn’t find the car, then they found it but it had the wrong plates on it, it’s got a scuff above the drivers door handle, but worst of all, it’s got a dying 12v battery.

Doesn’t fill me with confidence for my collection next week!
This must happen a lot! My M3, lol just no, Model 3, was one I ordered on the accelerated delivery after the exact spec one I'd been after happened to come up a few weeks ago - red or blue, LR, wheel upgrade, enhanced autopilot. They were originally going to deliver it on a day in the last week of Feb and allocated me a 71 plate, but I said I wanted to wait until March and get a 22 plate so they allocated me one the next week. Low and behold it turned up yesterday on a trailer, the guy dropped it off and it had the original 71 plate on there. They don't register the cars until you accept them, so I knew it was just the wrong plates and after ages on hold to Tesla and someone calling me back, they got some new plates made for me and driven to my house from the local service centre which is about 30 mins away.

A bit annoying at the time, but everything else is perfect about the car and I'm really happy with it. The price increase yesterday was a nice surprise - I had originally been looking at year old cars, but they were only a small amount cheaper than a brand new ones, so with an accelerated delivery it was a no brainer to get brand new and I'm even happier I did that now that they went up.

Looks fantastic!

After creating this thread almost 7 years ago  and annoying all of my friends/family by banging on about Tesla's non-stop, I have finally placed an order for a Model 3 in blue as well! Any other issues or quality concerns that you've seen out of interest?

Do you plan on applying any paint protection or anything similar?

I ordered a couple of days ago just after the price hike with a similar date of Nov 22. This has now changed to May 05 - June 02.

Unfortunately I might yet need to change my order (or cancel if that's the only way), if my accountant decides I can in fact put this through my business. As things standard it's a private purchase.

Thanks! No quality concerns so far, pleasantly surprised. The fit and finish is on a par or maybe better than my outgoing 2018 w205 AMG Mercedes C63.

I'm debating getting some PPF on the front of the rear arches, based on the stonechips on a 3000 mile year old car I viewed (a red one though), and from some other pictures of similar damage on the Tesla Model 3 Facebook group. Although maybe just getting any stonechips fixed on the arches by a specialist company if it happens would mean stronger paint. :D

On Monday I'm taking it in to get the side windows tinted by a well renowned local place who have worked on a lot of model 3s, I'm going for a light tint on the front side windows and a medium on the rear sides. He can do the roof as well, but I like the clear bit at the rear, and I think a full roof tint would make it too dark. If I change my mind I can get that done in the future.

I’m debating the same things, ppf possibly, new car ceramic coating definitely.

I also want to get the b-pillar backwards tinted (kids in the back), but am also contemplating the pano roof as well for the same reason.

Getting close now, 4 more sleeps.

This is the guy I'm getting them done by, he did my CR-V in 2014 and it was a great job, now he seems to be doing Teslas all the time!

I've placed an order for my replacement model 3. Just got to wait for Tesla to accept my rejection of the model 3 I've got now.

Will be going full PPF and window tint on the roof and rear windows

The paint on the bumper and bonnet is woefully thin, plus the shape of the car (due to aero) seems to be a magnet for stones.

My 911 suffered the same issues. Obviously you can't do much about bumpers (generalising here) as cars all tend to have similar sized ones, it's just general exotic cars have a very low front end as the engine is normally at the back somewhere.

Got my windows subtly tinted today, 55% on the front and 35% on the rear side. Not sure if I'll do the roof, as it's already pretty dark as it is if I got a full tint, and I'm not sure on the half tint looking out from the inside.

Another huge price increase last night.

M3 up to £46k
M3LR up to £55k (same as the MYLR)

To think I had an 3LR on order for £48.5k just 5 months ago
The weird thing is, the Performance hasn’t changed in the last two price increases. My brother’s M3LR (which he picked up last week) was around £7k cheaper than a Performance, the same build today would see his car at £58,190, £1,800 off a base M3P.

Collection day today? On my way to Southampton to collect my Y :)

The lead times are also the longest I’ve ever seen in the U.K., probably a bit of a cash grab while they can as well.

Lead times are really high all over I think.
