The Tesla Thread

Ah yes the update moved the port from lamp to the body side. Forgot about that!

Helps reduce the demand for superchargers aswell.
Ah gotcha, glad we're on the same wavelength. Thought I was being fick for a minute there :D

In the Model 3 the charge port cover is substantially bigger than the S and X. Maybe to accomodate this? hmmmm

Tesla use type 2 in Europe on all their cars and always have.

You will struggle to get anything bigger than a 7.2Kw home charger for a EV in the UK. You need three phase for 22kw and hardly any cars actually support it. Almost all cars are type 2 in Europe, only only notable exception is the Gen 1 leaf. The gen 2 is Type 2.

With that in mind when shopping for a charger I would be most concerned with:
1) Security (when EV's become mainstream can someone else plug their car in when I am not home and steal my electric, can someone steal the cable or charger)
2) Cable type (tethered or un-tethered)
3) Reliability
4) Price
5) Looks

So the I Pace has been revealed. £60-75k and an estimated 240 miles range (EPA). That price includes the £4500 grant from the gov.

Compared to £35-55k for the slightly larger F Pace. Obviously not entirely like for like but arguably you could say there’s around a £20k cost for the electric engine. That’s a lot of fuel! That’s 100k+ Miles...

Obviously that’s not the only reason to get one, but worth considering...

Not sure that’s a fair comparison given either £50k V6 version of the F Pace doesn’t offer 400bhp and you have to have spec F Pace will incontrol touch pro.

Quite an amusing launch event with jack Whitehall though, I put a video in the YouTube thread. Model X race was pretty direct too!

its not a like for like comparisons no, but it’s a pretty good equivalent I think. Power isn’t the main reason you buy a crossover...

Realistically they’re similar cars from the same manufacturer, similar build and similar options.

So the 298 mile range isn't real world then? Because AFAIK the Tesla's do pretty much what they claim on EPA

I started speccing one up out of curiosity and with everything I would have wanted it was coming out at £75k. The base model (£60k) didn't even have leather seats.

Interior looks lovely compared to a Tesla though.

298miles is WLTP so somewhere between NEDC and EPA. WLTP is 48mph average i think so much better than the NEDC segments of only 19mph and 37mph average.

S spec is a bit disappointing I agree.

Do like the design of the I-Pace. I wonder if the Model Y when it comes out will be a better comparison? we'll see.

However, I read a really good point on Electrek regarding other manufacturers taking "hits" at Tesla (namely Porsche) and also Jag comparing their I-Pace. Should manufacturers not be advertising how good the EVs are compared to other ICE equiliant vehicles? Rather than trying to take market share from other EVs? Isnt the idea of an EV to better for the planet and environment...the whole point is to reduce emissions, cost and all the rest of it? :p

For me, competition will always breed more competition and the ones who benefit are us, the customers. But I feel at this stage in the EV game all the players should be showing comparisons to ICE vehicles more to get more people to switch over and improve overall EV market share.

For anyone interested. The guy doing the Europe Road trip with the Model 3 has shipped the car now. Should arrive around the end of March-ish

240 mile range isn't great though. Plus you probably lose 25% of that from battery degradation. So in reality well under 200 mile range :/

Ok for going to work and back and shopping, but not a lot more.

why would people buy that over a longer range, more technologically advanced car and with supercharger network?
this is what I don't get, they think they can come in with high price mediocre cars and compete. About all they can compete on is how hard it is to get a model 3 but s&x is easy and within a year, 3 should be easy to get as well.

Some people will prefer to buy from a more established brand or one they are familiar with or just prefer because its a Jaaaaaaaag.

I don't think I have any posts in a hypercar thread let alone by far the most. For somebody who posts almost only about EV's I remain surprised you still don't see a fit for the tech for yourself..

You've never osted you like a HyperCard, find that hard to belivem.

And yet you repeatedly ignore the fact it has nothing to do with tech. I would have one in a heart beat. But my last car cost less than 500. So yeah another few years before we get my kind off affordable. Even cheapest leafs are still around 5k.
We don't all have silly money to spend on a car.
