The "Top Gear", Season 24/25/26 thread

So far a lot better than the previous episode. Feels a lot less like they are just reading lines straight off a script.

Still lacks the lols the old 3 have though :)

Yeah it is better but still too formulaic and they need to try new formats. You could see this whole piece being done with Clarkson or Hammond in the Lambo and May in the Porsche, making exactly the same arguments, but it'd be funnier.

The celebrity bit drags on WAY to long now as well :/

But they do need to turn off the TC in the GT86. Would be way more entertaining :D

Not a bad piece so far but kind of waiting for Rory to turn up in the "unexpected option" like May.

Matt is right though, the 911 can be more capable in every measurable way but it's not a supercar. If I were spending that kind of money I'd want something with a naturally aspirated V10 that looks like it's from space, not an uber-efficient turbo-charged flat six in something that looks like every other Porsche on the road.

EDIT: Harris just has no comedic delivery - that bit where he says "oh I can really sympathise about foam that damages cars" - not a single giggle from the audience.

What would you do instead?

Oh that tired old argument - no one's allowed to criticise unless they have an alternative? I have no idea - I expect them to work that out as it's what their paid for.

The whole point of Top Gear with Clarkson, Hammond and May was that it was wacky and original, to begin with at least. Even before they left, many people thought it'd had become old and tired and needed shaking up. The new presenters are the perfect opportunity to do that and for the creative types to come up with something new but they're just recycling all the old formats and features. It's boring because it's all been done to death.

I was just interested to hear what you would do instead of two people taking two separate cars, that's all. No need to get so angsty :)

Sorry, I just wanted a bit of originality, that's all. I could and have levelled the same criticism and TGT - both shows are just recycling the same old stuff TG has been doing for 15 years, but at least the presenters gel together better and are funnier.

What do people want here? A show like 5th Gear, where people drive the latest Citroen Cactus and we all change channel because the car's are boring and so are the presenters, talking about mpg, and the like? No, we're all secretly happy that there are two car shows on that are very similar, and have nice cars, a bit of chat and some lols.

When racing the two supercars up the mountain, was there any mention of using winter tyres? Judging by the look of the tyres a few times when stationary they look winter tyre shod so must have changed them prior to that challenge - wish they had said. Besides, I doubt either car would have made it without.

Yeah they definitely had winter tyres, but didn't mention it, no car would make it up without them.

Better than last week and a good start to the series imo. Yes, the current presenters don't have the chemistry or humour of Clarkson, Hammond and May yet but that will hopefully come in time. If and when it does it'll hopefully be more like Top Gear of 5 or 6 years ago rather than the car crash it eventually became.

The trouble with Alfas is that they have these beautifully styled fronts then then get completely booked by the goofy looking off centre numberplate. Come on! They know it needs a numberplate, design something better!
