The "Top Gear", Season 24/25/26 thread

license player doesn't pay ? .. they just add a flintoff premium on other programmes they are also making for bbc (under competitive bidding system )

If your workplace disfigured your face, you would expect more than 2 years loss of earnings/salary.

Freddy is obviously happy with it, but I personally wouldn't be.

Not surprised I've barely watched an episode since Clarkson et al departed its one thing to try and recreate the stunts but without the basic knowledge of motoring or journalistic background its just a jolly boys outing "hey lets smash this up/do daft stunt here!". Brainless fodder for couch potatoes.

i guess i am a boring old fart but top gear was decent when doing serious journalism. i would happily dump all the clowning around.

there was some good stuff in the later clarkson et al stuff in among the drivel, but the show was at its best in its older iteration in the 90s and before imo.5th gear ended up a much better program... but i guess the viewing figures show i am wrong!.

given 5th gear IS topgear in the original format (complete with some presenters) to be honest BBC should have let it keep the name, but then i guess its all about the money and topgear i suppose had the pull.

Quite, when TG started employing village idiots then it was doomed to failure..

All the serious car journalism (and some not so serious) has gone to Youtube now.

Top Gear included:

it surprises me that there isnt a place on mainstream TV to have this sort of stuff on. i mean i am happy to watch fully charged for instance on youtube, but a lot more folk would be exposed to it on bbc , even if it was only bbc 2. (in truth i am less interested in fully charged for car stuff, but more interested in the renewable energy stuff on that now).

my 1st "performance" car obsession was thanks to an early Clarkson top gear episode as it happens.... i remember watching it back in the day as a teenager thinking "i want that car"..... it took a while but i got it in the end ;)

Quite sad it's been shelved. I might get flak for saying this, I can't remember such an outcome for a stunt going wrong when hammond damaged his brain, different times I suppose.
Edit: I agree with the comments that TG was better when it had less of the stupid articles/stunts and more reviews/information on cars.

The problem is that the viewing figures showed exactly what happens if you have a show focussed on reviewing cars and lamenting such thrilling information as how many litres of storage the boot has with the seats up... no one watches it.

OG New Top Gear had some really good features over the years amongst all the messing about. Even the latest trio had a few segments that were really informative and interesting. IMO it was starting to find its feet after the cringe worthy antics early on so its a shame its gone but no huge loss really.
