The "Top Gear", Season 24/25/26 thread

I like it so far, much better than last season. OK it's not as great as some of the classic shows but they're gone now!

One thing I will say is that I didn't really have much desire to continue watching TGT however I do want to keep watching TG. Perhaps I'll give TGT another shot one day...

I think the first two episodes have been the same as the first two from TGT.

IMO TGT suffered from the guys trying to hard in the first few episodes, coming out as being particuarly scripted instead of being natural. The first two Top Gears have been similair, yet still entertaining and full of promise.

Now all we need is a christmas special TG vs TGT. Absoloutly bonza idea. 2 hour special.

Still don't understand why people think Top Gear (clarkson era included) wasn't scripted?

It's always been scripted...it's not a reality tv show lol. :o

Almost everything I watch on a TV is scripted. I don't think people have a problem with that, it's that it 'feels' scripted. At it's best, TG with Clarkson and co could make it seem natural.

The new season of Top Gear is awful. Both episodes have had me practically falling asleep they are so boring.
When I seen the 2nd episode was driving across America i thought great this will be fun! How wrong I was.
Even the start with the new Alfa went downhill rapidly when he started trying to drift it through that wall.
I hate to say it but it's gone backwards from last season at least Chris Evans made the show more fun and lively.
What's happened to having others on like Eddie Jordan and Sabine Schmitz?

Have to agree with all of this, apart from Eddie Jordan!

Enjoyed the first 2 episodes. Not keen on Rory or the studio bits though, will keep watching :)

I think the difference is that Clarkson and May (and to a lesser extent Hammond) are writers/journalists themselves and would have had a lot of input into their scripts which came across in the delivery, which had their personalities stamped on it. It didn't seem like a script, it was more natural. All three with their experience were also able to deviate from the scripts without it feeling ad-libbed. From what I've seen of new TG it just doesn't have that, it comes across as scripted, it's delivered as scripted and what they say isn't coming from them so to speak.

I was actually a bit disappointed with the Alfa piece at first as it felt like Harris was just reading a script written for Clarkson at times... "this is the bit where I'm supposed to conclude the Alfa is interesting but basically rubbish.................but it isn't!!!! It isn't rubbish at all - it's magnificent". However, it was a pleasant surprise when it looked like the piece might be destined to fade to studio but instead they rocked up to chase an m3 around.

Porsche vs Lambo was straight out of the classic TG challenge/road trip mould but that isn't necessarily a bad thing, it was well executed.

Celebrity thing feels a bit weird all mixed in with the show but can give that time.

Every review I've watched so far of the Alfa has been practically the same, Alfa has been rubbish for years so this car should be rubbish but actually isn't. Its not really fair to say it was a script written for Clarkson when the rest of the car industry has the same view.

There's a big difference between being scripted and feeling like its just being read from a teleprompter, and being scripted and feeling like it's almost spontaneous.

Reminds me of a firm wide presentation we had last year. A few of the directors' speeches were just monotone read off a sheet in front of them, while a few were hilarious and felt completely off the cuff (but weren't).
