The Touchpad Android thread

Didn't work :(

The problem happens as soon as I connect with my password. It sees my router, it lets me enter the password and connect then immediately boots me. Tried a fixed IP, different channels and different types of security but it won't connect unless security's completely disabled which I don't want due to Gary Glitter types stealing my airwaves for pedo bear activities :(

some people get this problem and some dont.

adjust the date and time in settings "manually", it worked for me, when i couldnt get into the market.

also try different types of security, AES only then TKIP only, then WEP only.

i find using AES and TKIP combined is awful, better to use one or the other.

Funnily enough it connected first time this morning. Only thing different I did was turn off wireless in WebOS before rebooting to Android. Crashed and rebooted itself 10 seconds later though and always reboots when it goes to sleep :/

i had no end of problems with my superhub router but none bar the occasional drop when coming out of standby on my wrt54g using alpha 2. On alpha 3, it seems the problems are now fixed as my touchpad has been connected to my superhub for the last 17 hours:cool:

Alpha 3 isn't being nice, web browser just refuses to do anything after a while. No problem with 3rd party browsers however, but I prefer the stock browser. Also takes an age to wake up from sleep now. Will be going back to webos until A4. Love the advantage of dual booting it's a shame 3.0.4 is seriously buggy as well.

I figured out the screen problem, was the crt effect. Turned it off and it's fine. Will bug report the browser if it does it after a clean boot.

On a side note, firefox nightly has decided to adopt some derptastic p2z feature that makes browsing horrific. Good going guys.

Does anyone know if Android OS supports Chinese characters on the HP TouchPad?

My wife wants to do some MSN/Skype with some friends and they can only read and type chinese text...

She should be able to read it fine. For typing you'll have to find a keyboard on the market because for some reason Google don't actually include any east asian input in the OS.

Finding one that actually scales decently to a tablet screen will probably be your biggest challenge. Unfortunately I can't help there as I use Japanese and not Chinese.

Is there a guide anywhere to update from alpha 2 to alpha 3, after updating webOS.

What do I need to do? I know I need to reinstall moboot somehow? That video is confusing me.

Well got this up and running on my TP today and all seems fine except for the cycling WiFi issue. I have tried the Terminal command to forget the WiFi settings and then re-enter but get the same problem.

To get around it I have had to downgrade the encryption on my WiFi from TKIP+AES to TKIP only again. This is the exact same problem I had when the TP first launched and was sorted by a subsequent WebOS update. As soon as I switch to TKIP+AES the TP drops off the network 10-20 seconds later.

that drag racing game is seriously good fun and addictive, i only just figured out what the pedal is actually for, i thought it was for just starting the race, after playing it for ages, i was wondering how some guys got amazing starts lol.

Got round to doing the android to the touchpad.

Battery life seems very much impaired, and due to the fact that I do not, nor do I have an android phone, it seems very long winded. On the whole, I like WebOS better. Its just far far more polished. But then, the android is merely a very good alpha!
