The µ43 thread - welcome to the really dark side

No ergonomic compromises with the gx8 best viewfinder I have used .ok the grip is not quite as good as my omd em-1 but that's the best grip ever.
Unless you mean the lack of built in flash and headphone jack it is the real deal.

Picked up a GM1 from Jessops to replace the GX1 and liking it so far.

Only downside is because of its tiny size it's maybe not as nice to handle as the GX1, but so far seems better performing and the screen is miles better.

Will do the job nicely as a small camera to take around.

Anyone go the 60mm Olympus macro?
How well does it focus at the close end of the scale?

I've had one for about 12 months and getting increasingly annoyed with its reluctance to autofocus at close distances.
I have double checked the focus dial is correct.

Given the manual fo us is tedious to use it has somewhat soured my M43 experience lately :(

Little over 3 weeks until I sell ALL my DSLR gear and make the swap to m4/3's...its nerving yet exciting, being without a DSLR for the first time in 10 years is a daunting thing

But still, onwards and upwards! :)

How do you set the focus dial on the side of lens?
Wondering if I am using it wrong.
I can get the minimum focus distance, but either have to use manual focus or I set the switch to minimum and then let it refocus as I move back slightly.
That works fine.
I think on the dial, going clockwise I use the second setting.

It's not been out more than a week but you get 100 pound cash back and 120 trade in on any digital camera plus the trade in value ,I swapped in my gh3 for the gx8 .you must use a code that on the LUMIX experience web site also 5ys warranty

it depends on how close i want to be and if i want 1:1 or not, but if your after max mag then man focus works better on any system/make. the above shot is hand held and auto focus but remember at max mag you really are better off with a tripod, the slightest movement with the really shallow depth of field and that's focus lost:D as is in a slight breeze :p

.

Niko,

Could I ask a flavour? Would you mind posting/linked a 100% of the above shot? I fancy a pixel peep :)

Also what camera do you use?

Totally understand if it's a no :)
hi mate pic was a bit big for here, so do you have an email addy I can send you the link to? trust it to me and i will get it sorted, but yep as mister insane:D said for cam/lens

I do try to use tripod and manual focus when possible but I,often have a roam around the garden and get in amongst the flowers so not always possible without getting tangled up or shouted at for trampling. :p

I hate a breeze though. i can get really wound up sometimes when something moves just as go to press the shutter.

I'll have a play around at the weekend and try and refine my technique!

Does anyone know anything about flashes? A hot-shoe mountable bigger than whats currently on my EPL5 would be good, the current flash cannot reach over the 12-40mm lens!

Also, anyone seen good recommendations for a case combo of olly EPL5 and 12-40mm? Are Kata bags generally recommended?
